Job Description


Purpose

The Manger of Campus Safety and Security is responsible for the strategic management development and implementation of a comprehensive safety and security program for the school community. This role ensures a safe secure and welcoming environment for students faculty staff families and visitors across all campus facilities and events. The Director works collaboratively with school leadership local law enforcement and emergency services to maintain best practices in school safety and crisis response

Representative Responsibilities of this Position:

  1. Management & Strategy
    1. Develop and oversee the schools safety and security policies procedures and emergency response plans.
    2. Manage the Safety team including hiring training scheduling and performance management.
    3. Serve as the primary liaison with local police fire and emergency management agencies.
  2. Campus Safety Operations
    1. Monitor and manage campus access control surveillance systems and visitor management protocols.
    2. Responsible for ensuring that there is proper reception area coverage of doors 1 and 7.
    3. Conduct regular safety audits risk assessments and emergency drills (e.g. fire lockdown evacuation).
    4. Ensure compliance with all applicable local state and federal safety regulations.
  3. Emergency Preparedness
    1. Maintain and update the schools Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) bi-annually.
    2. Coordinate crisis response and recovery efforts in collaboration with school leadership.
    3. Provide training to faculty staff and students on emergency procedures and situational awareness.
  4. Community Engagement
    1. Foster a culture of safety and trust through visibility approachability and proactive communication.
    2. Educate students and families in safety practices and protocols.
    3. Support school events and activities with appropriate safety planning and presence.
  5. Administrative Duties
    1. Maintain incident reports safety logs safety committee and documentation for internal and legal purposes.
    2. Manage the departments budget equipment and vendor relationships.
    3. Participate in school leadership meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
  6. Health Services Program
    1. Oversee and provide strategic direction for the school health services program including direct supervision and support of the school nurse to ensure compliance with health regulations alignment with educational goals and promotion of student well-being.
  7. Technology related Safety Equipment
    1. Work with the IT Department to maintain all Safety related Technology Equipment
    2. Work with Securitas and other technology related vendors.
    3. Oversight/management of the internal radio/PA communication protocols including assignment maintenance and training of users.
  8. Partner with Director of Communications on all emergency and issue-related communications.
    1. Create and update as needed crisis communication plans.
    2. Serve as the schools spokesperson should the Head of School or an appropriate designee not be available.
  9. Oversight of the MPA Transportation Program (Bussing)
  10. Maintain effective and appropriate communication with members of the school community.
    1. Prepare reports on institutional progress towards meeting short- and long-term goals and yearly activity to administration as called upon by the Head of School and CFOO
    2. Respond to email and voicemail messages in a timely manner.
  1. Be an active positive and contributing member of Mounds Park Academy
    1. Always display high integrity and be a role model for students.
    2. Communicate respectfully and effectively following the Respectful Discourse Policy with parents students teachers staff administration visitors and volunteers.
    3. Support and facilitate the initiatives of the MPA strategic plan and positively contribute to school-wide committee work.
    4. Support colleagues and demonstrate leadership skills with peers.
    5. Understand and fulfill all aspects of employee handbook.
    6. Maintain appropriate boundaries with students.
    7. Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as requested by theHead of Schoolor as deemed necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the school to fulfill the mission of Mounds Park Academy.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit stand walk talk and/or hear. Additionally the ability to bend and/or twist and have strong close and far vision and depth perception will be frequently called upon as this employee interacts with all ages of children. The employee will lead admission marketing efforts and as such color vision may be utilized in review of marketing collateral. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds during event set-up or with office supplies. Frequent keyboard and computer use comprise a significant amount of daily activity. Occasional evening and weekend work required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The working environment is primarily comprised of office and school facilities. The employee will work alone with others in small and large groups and amongst both a traditional office environment as well as with students and faculty in a busy school environment. This includes frequent exposure to moderate noise levels and occasional exposure to loud noise levels produced by large groups of students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in criminal justice Emergency Management Public Administration related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in law enforcement campus safety or security leadership preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of emergency preparedness threat assessment and crisis management.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in a school community.
  • CPR First Aid and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Background check required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in campus safety or security
