The Helix School serves children with mild to moderate autism ages 522 from across the Bay Area. Our model and mission focus on providing an education that nurtures and develops each students capabilities through an evidence-based integrated curriculum tailored to their developmental level sensory processing differences and emotional regulation needs. Position Description
The Coordinator of Student Services has a passion for our community and a love for creating meaningful experiences for our students. This role designs and delivers opportunities both during and outside the academic day which may include:
- Movie nights museum visits art Saturdays overnights field trips concerts afterschool programs school break programming art shows drama and music events.
- Student council lunch program oversight volunteer coordination PCP and Peers initiatives.
While the primary goal is to serve our students and families this program is expected to be at least self-sustaining and ideally revenue-generating. The Coordinator is also responsible for planning executing and evaluating the annual schedule of programs events and camps as outlined in the Timeline of Expectations.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong organizational and collaborative event planning skills.
- Clear thoughtful and professional communication.
- Ability to inspire collaboration and rally support for activities.
- Experience forecasting and budgeting expenses.
- Familiarity with working with autistic students.
- A behavioral background (e.g. Applied Behavior Analysis or related experience) is preferred.
Personal Qualities
- Flexible and kind in addressing challenges.
- Articulate efficient and clear communicator.
- Logical strategic thinker with attention to detail and the big picture.
- Eager to learn new skills.
- Sense of humor is always welcome.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with all members of the Helix Leadership Team due to its cross-school responsibilities. The Coordinator provides monthly updates to the Leadership Team.
Timeline of Expectations
All months include: monthly report to Leadership Team execution of events and event/budget reporting.
August
- Launch school-year enrichment programs.
- Host Back to School events.
- Prepare for September programs.
September
- Continue enrichment activities.
- Plan fall events and secure approvals for October activities.
October
- Oversee enrichment activities.
- Coordinate and host at least one major student event.
- Begin planning for Winter Break programming.
November
- Continue enrichment activities.
- Run fall break programming and at least one community event.
December
- Launch new seasonal enrichment activities.
- Run winter break programming and a year-end celebration.
January
- Continue enrichment activities.
- Begin spring program planning.
February
- Continue enrichment activities.
- Run ski week programming and a winter community event.
March
- Launch new seasonal enrichment activities.
- Continue spring programs.
April
- Continue enrichment activities.
- Run spring break programming.
May
- Continue enrichment activities.
- Prepare Year-End Report for Leadership Team.
June
- Finalize and approve AugustDecember calendar with Executive Director.
- Plan summer camp staffing and logistics.
July
- Run Helix Summer Camps 4 weeks of programming.
August (following year)
- Complete final week(s) of Helix Summer Camps.
- Prepare Back to School events and August enrichment launches.
