The Breeze app is the dating app for real dates. Weve built the worlds first service that organises actual offline dates at scale. On Breeze users skip the online chat once you match you pick a time and we organise a real-life date at one of our partnered venues.
So far weve organised over 400.000 dates and are live in the Netherlands Germany Belgium France the UK and New York.
About the role
As a Backend Engineer in the Dating Machine product team your mission is to build the core systems that power the dating experience on Breeze from matching to meeting in real life. Youll work closely with frontend engineers and product teammates to design reliable secure and scalable APIs that support new user-facing features and keep our core matchmaking engine running smoothly.
This is a hands-on role with lots of variety and impact. Youll mostly work in Go building backend features in the Dating Machine pod while also contributing to Breeze-wide backend infrastructure as part of the Data & Tech guild. Examples of projects include overhauling our cancellation policy logic refactoring the date picker building an in-house notification system or improving our cloud architecture and QA tooling.
Concretely you will:
Build backend features for the Dating Machine pod: work closely with product teammates to design and implement APIs and core logic in Go that power the Breeze dating experience.
Contribute to core infrastructure: Improve Breeze-wide backend systems from observability and developer tooling to QA flows and cloud infrastructure in collaboration with our Data & Tech guild.
Proactively monitor and solve bugs: keep a close eye on logs and performance metrics resolve issues quickly and continuously improve system reliability.
Shape technical innovation and strategy: identify opportunities for smarter architecture cleaner code and better tools and help drive Breezes backend forward as we scale.
About you
Technically strong & eager to learn: You have at least 13 years of experience in backend development (ideally with Go) and a solid grasp of the fundamentals. Youre keen to deepen your knowledge of system architecture databases and best practices as you take on more responsibility.
Pragmatic & efficient: You move fast without compromising quality. You know when to build an MVP when to polish and how to simplify. Youre comfortable using GenAI to accelerate development and testing.
Product-aware mindset: You understand how backend work impacts the user experience and can help prioritise tasks that deliver real product value.
Proactive and accountable: You take ownership raise issues early and follow through doing what is needed to deliver efficient solutions to a high standard.
Team player with a mission fit: Youre excited about Breezes mission to make dating more intentional and human and you enjoy collaborating with others to get things done.

Competitive Salary: Between 4.500 and 6.000 on a full-time basis per month (gross) depending on your experience.
Security: After 1 or 2 seven-month contracts transition to a permanent contract for job stability and security.
