You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Maine CDC is looking for an Environmental Health Program Manager to provide leadership and expertise for the Radiation Control Program to minimize radiation exposure to the public and workers through licensing and inspection of radiation producing sources and machines support and maintain the Maine Agreement State this position you will also provide oversight of low-level radioactive waste generators radioactive emergency preparedness and response conduct environmental surveillance of nuclear facilities and minimize the public health impact associated with radon in air and water. You will be responsible for overall program operations administering and enforcing laws and rules rulemaking finances and budgets legislation staffing training human resources records retention performance management continuous quality improvement and communication. You will also be a senior-level member of Maine CDCs Division of Environmental and Community Health (DECH) leadership team which includes the division director along with program managers for Health Inspection Drinking Water and Environmental Health.
Core Responsibilities:
As a the manager of the Radiation Control Program your core responsibilities will include:
Providing overall direction and evaluation for the day-to-day activities and administration of the program
Supervising staff in oversight of licensing and inspection activities for radiation and radon including tanning facilities and providing direction of enforcement actions
Managing activities for the regulation of X-ray machinery and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) compliance
Communicating protective action requirements and health effects of radiation exposure
Managing program budgets and revenue sources including federal grants
Working with Maine CDC leadership and staff to make policy interpretations propose rules and set standard operating procedures
Providing excellent customer service
Providing support to the State Nuclear Safety Inspector
Minimum Qualifications:
Advanced education training and/or experience in environmental health public health chemical biological or physical science or another related field demonstrating competency in technical management program planning development evaluation compliance management and incident response.
Preferred candidates will also have:
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to gather synthesize and summarize a variety of information
The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners
Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft software
Knowledge of and experience with website development and maintenance
Radiation dose reconstruction and modeling
Experience with radioactive materials licensing and compliance related to the Agreement State program
Knowledge of and experience with radiation safety and compliance
Demonstrated skill applying best practices and standards for health and safety communication
Knowledge of or experience with the US Food and Drug Administration Mammography Quality Standards Act.
Knowledge or experience with the US Environmental Protection Agency radon grant program.
Familiarity/knowledge with various publications addressing radon; especially those distributed by EPA.
