Description

Position Title: Human Resources Generalist II Department: Human Resources

Title of Immediate Supervisor/Leader to Whom This Position Reports: Director of Human Resources

*Expected Daily Work Hours: 8:00am 5:00pm *Expected Weekly Work Schedule: Monday Friday

* College offices are normally open from 8:00 AM until 5:00PM Monday through Friday. However due to the nature of responsibility to the student body individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening or weekend hours. Non-exempt employees will normally work 8 hours per (any hours in excess of 40 per week) for non-exempt employees is required to be approved in advance by the department supervisor. Exempt employees will typically work at least 40 hours per week and such additional time as may be reasonably required to fulfill the obligations of their position description. Such additional work may include evenings and weekends and should be described in this document.

Brief summary of this position:

Supports daily human resources operations through coordination and administration of activities pertaining to all aspects of human resources including posting job advertisements onboarding and offboarding employees coordinating pre-employment screenings and conducting background checks; and workers compensation; and interpreting communicating and enforcing College policies. The position requires a high degree of discretion and confidentiality and is trained in employment laws applicable to human resources and higher education.

Minimum Qualifications Required: (please be specific and respond to every question; indicate none if not applicable)

Education required to ensure success in this position:

  • Bachelors Degree in human resources business administration psychology or other related field required.

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • 3-5 years experience in human resources preferably in a higher education or non-profit setting.

Special skills knowledge and abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal/state/local employment laws/regulations relating to OFCCP EEOC Unemployment Insurance COBRA;
  • Ability to navigate employee relations: conflict resolution problem-solving counseling facilitation;
  • Partnership skills: coaching influencing problem-solving consulting;
  • Business skills: business writing computer/information systems presentation skills
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office; Paycom or other ATS and payroll systems a plus.

License certification or registration necessary:

  • PHR or SHRM CP strongly preferred

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds
  • Occasionally lift/carry up to 25lbs

Environmental condition

  • Professional office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors and callers

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:

  • Standard office equipment: computer phone etc.

Primary duties and responsibilities (Typically 7 primary duties comprised of 80% of the responsibilities):

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability and predictable attendance is essential.   • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity recognition and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants employees and supervisors referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintains compliance and up-to-date knowledge of federal state and local employment laws and regulations recommended best practices and human resources technologies.
  • Keeps up to date on HRIS upgrades and changes. Informs HR Director of changes pertinent to the Colleges operations.
  • Responsible for job requisition placement on internal applicant tracking system and external job board sites. Correspond with current and potential applicants regarding job queries; open and closes job postings on the MC website and in
  • Maintain and distribute standardized hiring practices: Initiates new-hire staff requisitions. Troubleshoots applicant tracking issues with hiring departments. Handles new hire electronic on-boarding process.
  • Coordinates all pre-employment processing including making verbal offers drafting offer letters physicals and drug screen for all safety-sensitive hires as well as background checks degree verifications and motor vehicle reporting.
  • Maintain the web-based personnel directory on the College website.
  • Performs exit interviews/off-boarding for employees who are separating employment.
  • Administer College Workers Compensation Claims expediting the employees medical care. Serves as the coordinator and liaison between the employee the supervisor the WC insurance adjuster and the medical provider to resolve claims.
  • Tracks the OSHA 300 and 300-A reports; completes and submits annual OSHA report after reviewed by supervisor.
  • Assists with maintaining accurate and complete personnel records.

Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive respectful learning environment for all staff faculty and students.
