- Underwriter level15: $63894 - $85194performance basedincentive.
- Underwriter level16: $72840 - $97121 performance based incentive.
- Underwriter level17: $83037 $110717performance basedincentive.
Location:
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment currently requiring employees to work in the office2days per week.(subject to change)
- This role can be performed from EDCs headquarters in Ottawa Toronto Montreal Halifax Calgary or Vancouver.

Team overview
EDCs Credit Insurance Underwriting group is looking fordynamic and motivated professionals toassist Canadian companies go grow and succeed internationally. Working in close collaboration with both internal and external partners the successful candidate(s) will facilitate international trade by helping our customers protect themselves against the risk of non-payment from foreign companies.
In the underwriting role you will be relied upon to engage with EDCs customers to understand theirneedsstructure insurance coverage and assess counterparty creditworthiness to achieve the optimal balance between customer-centricity and EDCs business addition you will actively participate in the attainment of the groups performance and growth objectives and be engaged in continuous improvement in order to remove obstaclesenhance the work environment and improve the customer experience.
We are currently recruiting for multiple permanent underwriter roles. This poster may also be used to fill future hiring needs over the next 12 months.
What you will be doing
- Establishes relationships with internal andor external customers;
- Understands customer needsdetermines optimal insurance coverage structure terms and conditions and participates in delivery of the product to the client or prospect;
- Provides on-going customer service acting as subject matter expert for our clients;
- Assesses the creditworthiness of foreign companies understanding the likelihood of a company honoring its obligations through in depth financial and credit analysis (liquidity analysis leverage & maturity schedules profitability cash-flow management third partybank support and other factors such as competitiveness market conditionselasticity of demand industry trends);
- Participates in developing loss mitigation strategies whenallocated credits become at risk;
- Participates in continuous process improvement initiatives to streamline operations;
- Identifies problems and champions enhancements to existing processes;
- Contributes to the overall improvement of the programs results by striving for excellence and unrivaled execution.
What we are looking for:
- Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration Accounting FinanceCommerce or other relevant discipline (for all levels).
- 2 years (Underwriter level15) 2 - 5 years (Underwriter level 16) or greater than 5 (Underwriter level17) of experience in insurance underwriting or related financial services experience.
- Solidexperience reading and interpreting financial statements with strong financial analysis skills.
- Experience structuring and negotiating more complex structures with a can-do attitude and an outside the box mindset.
- Comfortable meeting with Exporters at Executive and Senior Leadership level in order to assess needs determine and outline appropriate structures
- Personal agility:
- ability to demonstrate personal resilience and openness to changes to EDCs business environment and structure
- adapting ones approach as the requirements of a situation change
- being comfortable in ambiguous situations and changing or easily accepting and managing changes in ones job requirements
- working in a matrix environment.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Strong client service skills (internal and external)
- Significant experience leading the successful completion of increasingly complex commercial credit transactions across a variety of industry sectors andor international markets.
What will make you stand out:
- International and/or commercial banking experience.
- MBACFA or CPA designation.
- Working knowledge of insurance underwriting principles and practices.
- Advanced Excel skills. Coding skills is an asset.
- Proficiency in both English and French (fully bilingual).
