Job Description

  • Employment Type: Full Time Fixed Term for 2 years (35-hour week)
  • Remuneration Level 7: $113926 - $% Superannuation
  • Location: Kensington NSW


Why The Role Matters:

This role supports the Program Manager (Student Gender Equity) Program Manager (Student Equity) and Senior Program Officer (Indigenous Engagement) by coordinating all activities targeted to cohorts currently underrepresented in the engineering sector including women non-binary and gender diverse people and those from low socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds UNSW Gateway schools those located in remote and rural areas and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

The Community Engagement Coordinator is a member of the UNSW Engineering Societal Impact and Translation team and supports the delivery and execution of the UNSW Equity Diversity and Inclusion strategy 2023-2027 and the UNSW Strategy: Progress for All and associated Societal Impact Framework. This position is an exciting and diverse role that will involve event coordination knowledge translation marketing implementation of student and community engagement initiatives and the development of internal and external relationships with those who have a passion for driving diversity and belonging within the education and engineering sectors.


Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate and implement community engagement initiatives and activities targeting cohorts currently underrepresented in the engineering sector including women non-binary and gender diverse people those from low socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds UNSW Gateway schools those located in remote and rural areas and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Establish and manage strategic partnerships within UNSW for example with Future Student Recruitment and the Division of Societal Impact Equity and Engagements Student Equity team and externally with relevant stakeholders for example NSW high schools who have aligned objectives to leverage activities that will enhance our collective impact.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of project plans and schedules contributing to planning processes for key initiatives and activities as required including (but not limited to) those associated with the Women In Engineering Program UNSW Makerbus activities UNSW Gateway Program Engineering Indigenous Engagement.
  • Monitor track and report on the status of project deliverables to ensure time cost and quality metrics are in line with approved project plans for assigned projects.
  • Provide consultative advice and strategic guidance across the faculty on issues relating to the attraction and retention of students from underrepresented cohorts in Engineering.
  • Design develop and implement effective marketing and communications strategies for activities and initiatives targeted to underrepresented cohorts and relevant communities.
  • Manage stakeholder communications across multiple channels both internal and external to the project.

Skills and Experience:

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent extensive experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education training and experience preferably within the higher education sectors or working closely with individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated expertise in fostering student engagement and crafting programs/initiatives aimed at enhancing skills and cultivating a sense of community among participants.
  • A passion for the engineering sector and equity diversity and inclusion
  • Substantial project and event coordination experience including ability to plan implement and co-ordinate complex projects and report on outcomes.
  • Engagement and stakeholder management skills including the ability to establish long-term relationships with student academic and external stakeholders with a strong track record in delivery of successful outcomes.
  • Skilled in managing budgets for engagement programs ensuring effective resource allocation and financial responsibility.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
