Job Description

Fresh Meats NZ is a boutique Napier-based lamb processor operating year-round to produce premium products for both domestic and export markets. Fresh Meats is part of the Integrated Foods Group a vertically integrated agribusiness with large-scale farming operations in Gisborne.

Our alternate-day processing schedule (primary processing one day secondary the next) means every day brings new challenges and opportunities. Were a dynamic team committed to excellence in food safety quality and continuous improvement.

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Compliance Manager to lead our food safety and regulatory compliance efforts. This is a pivotal role that ensures our operations meet the highest standards while supporting business growth and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee compliance with all relevant food safety regulations and quality assurance requirements.
  • Maintain and continually improve the companys compliance systems procedures and documents (eg. HACCP RMP MPI standards internal audits)
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and prepare for external audits and inspections.
  • Lead internal audits and root cause analysis for non-conformances.
  • Identify compliance risks and opportunities for improvement and provide input on operational planning.
  • Balance regulatory compliance with business needs by providing clear solution-oriented guidance.
  • Provide compliance training to operational and QA staff. Promote a culture of accuracy ownership and continuous improvement across all levels.

About you:

You are a detail-oriented solutions-focused professional with a passion for food safety and continuous improvement. You thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy working collaboratively across teams.

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a food safety or compliance manager role preferably in the meat industry.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance frameworks (including MPI RMP and HACCP).
  • Technologically savvy with the ability to streamline and modernise compliance systems.
  • Solutions-focused mindset enabling the business to meet objectives while maintaining compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across teams and levels.
  • A growth mindset and willingness to help others improve through training and guidance.
