Software Engineer Core Data Platform (Cloud Data Technologies)

About the team and the role
The Cloud Data Technologies (CDT) team at eBay designs builds and operates the data infrastructure that powers analytics AI and data-driven experiences across the company. We manage the full data lifecycle from ingestion to insight serving thousands of internal users and applications.
As an MTS 1 Software Engineer on the Core Data Platform team youll help build scalable reliable and cost-efficient systems that enable data ingestion streaming governance and analytics at global scale. This role is focused on data platform engineering developing the frameworks and services that power data pipelines rather than the pipelines themselves. Youll collaborate with diverse teams to strengthen the foundation of eBays data ecosystem.
What you will accomplish
Design and deliver distributed systems supporting ingestion streaming storage and governance for eBays Data Platform.
Develop services and APIs that power scalable data management and access across multiple clouds.
Contribute to architecture design reviews ensuring scalability reliability and cost efficiency.
Drive operational excellence through observability automation and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with analytics infrastructure and product teams to align technical delivery with business goals.
Learn and grow in advanced areas such as orchestration governance and privacy engineering.
What you will bring
5 years of experience designing and developing distributed systems or data platforms.
Proficiency in Java or Python with experience in containerized environments and CI/CD practices.
Hands-on experience with Kafka Flink Spark Delta/Iceberg and modern data stores (NoSQL or columnar).
Strong understanding of distributed systems fundamentals performance reliability and fault tolerance.
Proven ability to independently deliver complex projects from design to production.
Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
Location and work model
This role follows eBays hybrid work model requiring three days per week in the office (unless otherwise stated).
