Part-Time Job Opening
Park Maintenance Staff
Season: September 2025 through January 2026 (up to 1000 hours per year)
If you enjoy working outside and performing yardwork you should consider working for our Parks Department. You can learn how to use numerous pieces of equipment how to care for lawns and various plants and trees learn about striping and setting up athletic fields and so much more! If you dont see yourself having a 9-5 job and sitting behind a desk all day you might want to give this a try. Its hard work but it can be very rewarding and you could make a career of it. JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks Parks Foreman and/or Crew Leader the Part-Time Park Maintenance Staff will perform a variety of maintenance and landscaping tasks to provide safe and attractive parks playgrounds and athletic fields throughout the Park District. Duties include but are not limited to maintaining the grounds at our many parks and facilities i.e. mowing trimming edging weeding watering trash picking/collection etc.; athletic field prep and set-up; special event set-up/take-down; minor repairs to park elements playground equipment etc. and other duties as assigned. This is an at-will position.
Hours: Monday Friday 7:00am 3:30 pm occasional weekend and special events required
Approximately 32 hours per week with some overtime possible September 2025-January 2026
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- The ideal candidate will be self-motivated enthusiastic and reliable with a strong sense of responsibility and initiative to achieve safe clean and well-maintained parks and facilities.
- Previous landscaping and/or maintenance experience is preferred.
- Candidates must be 18 or older with a valid IL Drivers License reliable transportation to and from work. Familiarity with the Glen Ellyn area is a plus!
- General knowledge and use of hand and power tools as well as gasoline and electric powered equipment is preferred.
- Must be in good physical condition to perform manual labor in various weather conditions including high heat/humidity and cold.
- Strong sense of safety with effective communication skills and a desire to provide quality customer service are essential.
- Ability to work well independently and as a member on a crew.
- Candidates will need to pass background check following an offer of employment.
