The Opportunity

Monash University is seeking a strategic ethical and experienced leader to take on the role of Principal Specialist and Responsible Officer General Misconduct. This senior role is critical to upholding the integrity quality and fairness of the student experience across the University.

Reporting to the University Registrar you will lead a highly specialised team responsible for the management of the Universitys centralised general misconduct and student safety and risk addition you will act as the Responsible Officer for General Misconduct - leading impartial investigations safeguarding procedural fairness and supporting the wellbeing of our students and community.

As a strategic leader youll build strong partnerships across the University and work closely with stakeholders including the Office of General Counsel Safer Community Unit Faculties and Senior Executive to ensure regulatory compliance risk management and continuous process improvement.

About You

We are looking for a values-driven strategic leader with a deep commitment to fairness integrity and the student experience. With extensive experience managing complex complaints misconduct processes and high-stakes decision-making you bring sound judgement empathy and resilience to every aspect of your work.

Your leadership style is collaborative and empowering. You have a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams in environments requiring discretion impartiality and compliance with regulatory and legal frameworks. You are skilled in mentoring and developing staff managing performance and fostering a culture of professionalism continuous improvement and service excellence.

You will bring to the role:

  • A qualification in law and relevant experience
  • Substantial leadership experience in student conduct regulatory compliance complaints resolution or administrative decision-making within a complex organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policy drive strategic initiatives and lead change in alignment with institutional goals
  • Superior decision-making capabilities with a strong grounding in procedural fairness risk management and stakeholder engagement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare high-level reports and communicate sensitively and effectively across diverse audiences

Your ability to engage with senior stakeholders lead with purpose and contribute to the Universitys culture of inclusion respect and integrity will be key to your success in this role.
