JOB SUMMARY
Project Controller is responsible for developing implementing administering and improving cost control performance measurement and change management processes. This position executes the strategy and processes outlined by the Global Director of Project Controls in compliance with SPX FLOW policies and work processes. Facilitates the development of baselines for budgets and forecasts cost setting performance measurements and fosters change management processes. Works in close cooperation with assigned Project Managers and local financial teams to report analyze and forecasts the financial performance. Responsible for accurate accounting and compliance with SPX FLOW internal control processes.
Project Controller is key in implementing and ensuring accurate performance measurements and project cost reports. They monitor actual financial performance against budget/forecast to determine the sales/profit impact (dashboard commercial performance cash flow). Analyzes percentage of completion/project progress to understand actual progress and areas where system deliveries in the future could be at risk and assists the Project Manager in the identification assessment development and management of mitigation plans for project risks. Assumes responsibility for the integrity of the data maintained in the systems and assures that adequate levels of control documentation are in place. This role reports to a Regional Head of Project Controls (who then reports to Global Director of Project Controls).
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Track contractual milestones and stage gates to ensure timely client invoicing
Identify and resolve discrepancies with WBS structure
Provide ad hoc reporting for project and/or senior management using a variety of software tools (e.g. SAP B4HANA Staff Scheduling and Utilization Software)
Oversight of work breakdown structure (WBS) creation and accurate tracking of costs to the applicable cost centers while ensuring compliance with current financial/project management policies
Verify that data entered costing categories adheres to contract and subcontract terms for sourcing contracts including subcontractor management
Read understand and apply project specific contract terms and requirements to identify the full contractual scope of the project (e.g. milestone billings liquidated damage clauses scope of work where potential change orders should be provided to the customer).
Coordinate and facilitate change order meeting and ensure change order signatures have been obtained and documented and that approved change orders are tracked and maintained
Establish and document project-specific change management procedures and ensure project team understands and follows project-specific change management procedures including WBS coding and budgeting.
Manage preparation of internal monthly reports and external client reports and actively participate in project reviews
Review internal and external reports with project managers and finance departments identifying reconciling and explaining cost variances as it relates to project completion
Coordinate contract budgets and scope management across technology centers and various entities ensuring that budget distribution across multiple sites is aligned.
Prepare cost and revenue distribution forecasts to ensure accurate calculation of revenue and margin.
Recognize and facilitate resolution of budget under/over runs and communicate to project management
Ensure period costs are updated into the general ledger tool in a timely manner and to recognize potential budget under over runs that are at risk of occurring based on run rates and progress towards completion
Facilitate project reviews with project management to ensure an accurate cost estimate at completion is determined
Facilitate risk reviews with project management and other functional teams and effectively manage risk provisions and project contingencies
Forecasting of cost spend in periods to assist in budgeting and forecasting of the profit and loss statements of projects
Assist finance team with any audits (data collection explanation of project data and results etc.)
Helps with training and mentorship of more junior members of the team.
On ad-hoc basis works on cross-functional assignments which can help improve global business processes.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to manage others both directly and indirectly
Expert knowledge of financial controls and ERP tools related to project execution (SAP)
Working knowledge of contract types accounting concepts and terminology (e.g. revenue cash flow margin) and procurement policies and terminology (e.g. commitments milestone payments)
Understanding of departments and ability to communicate effectively within the project team and division leadership
Advanced ability to use spreadsheets to produce ad hoc reports including producing charts graphs converting text files data manipulation
Thorough understanding of project estimates (i.e. budgeting) and cost accounting structures
Thorough understanding of contract requirements
Ability to manage amendments to project contracts maintain a change order log and generate and evaluate change order estimates
Working knowledge of contract and construction terminology along with the entire change management process
Ability to recognize and analyze cost spend anomalies
Ability to explain cost reporting discrepancies to project management teams and communicate cost reporting issues to other departments (e.g. Engineering Construction and Finance) and/or assist in the resolution of cost reporting issues
Working knowledge of project schedules and contract requirements
Working knowledge of project delivery requirements and stage gates
Ability to evaluate information from various costing data sources
Ability to communicate assumptions and content of project forecasts to team members and/or senior management
Experience with work in Power BI and B4HANA is an advantage
Proficiency in the English language both written and verbal
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
At least 5 years of experience in project or cost controlling ideally but not exclusively in engineering company
Degree in engineering accounting or related technical or business fields
Strong knowledge of Microsoft products and ERP systems (preferably SAP)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability and willingness to travel when needed (no more than 1 business trip per quarter)
