Business Unit: Blackstone Private Wealth Legal group with a focus on registered funds within Blackstones industry leading Real Estate Private Equity Credit & Insurance (BXCI) and Infrastructure groups.
This role will sit within a fast growing and dynamic business and involve product structuring and launching Japanese feeders into U.S. or European registered funds managing the day-to-day legal matters for new and existing registered funds and feeders and assisting the other senior lawyers within Private Wealth Legal with strategic projects.
Blackstones Private Wealth group represents $250 billion of Blackstones $1.1 trillion of AUM and is a key growth driver for the firm. The individual investor space is at the epicenter of investment management and Blackstones Private Wealth group is one of the most successful businesses of its kind in the industry. Private Wealth is highly entrepreneurial and has a stated goal of hitting $1 trillion in AUM within the business unit and the Private Wealth Legal team is core to this mission.
Job Description:
This role will be based in Tokyo and will work on a variety of interesting and cutting-edge legal and general corporate matters with a focus on the formation and ongoing management of feeder funds into registered funds.
Primary job responsibilities will include:
Participating in the design and launch of newly registered funds and feeder funds.
Overseeing the ongoing day-to-day management of new and existing registered funds and feeder funds.
Assisting senior leaders with project management and fund formation matters and participating in product development of various investment structures across multiple jurisdictions.
Participating in the creation and management of registered fund board materials.
Managing regulatory filings and assisting with day-to-day oversight of legal matters.
Assisting with the development of a marketing and fundraising plan for registered funds and feeder funds.
Working with the in-house Legal & Compliance team and external counsel to monitor and implement legal and regulatory developments that impact the registered funds.
Working with the PWS marketing team for ongoing fundraising and marketing activities and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Providing regulatory and legal advice to investment professionals and business personnel including preparation of reports for the investment team and senior management.
Interpreting and applying Japanese regulations for offshore and onshore offerings of feeder funds into registered funds.
Qualifications:
6 years of experience practicing law as a law firm associate or an in-house counsel with a leading Japanese law firm/ top tier international law firm or global fund or financial institution preferably focused on registered funds / investment management law. Capital markets or similar U.S. public company background would also be suitable.
Familiarity working on BDCs and interval funds is preferred but not required.
Experience with public company filings is required.
Experience working with international clients or global financial institutions is preferred.
Excellent written and spoken English and Japanese language skills required.
Creative problem solver with a can-do attitude.

Highly motivated enthusiastic proactive intelligent and proven excellence in prior endeavors.
Ability to be proactive in new situations and to independently manage projects to conclusion.
Strong time and task management.
