Are you an enthusiastic advocate for community and taiao who cares deeply about protecting the environment and empowering others with community initiatives The Beautification Trust is seeking an experienced Community Engagement Specialist to lead and deliver environmental projects and activations across South Auckland. Working as part of the Community Team you will build an impactful workplan to reduce illegal dumping/litter restore public spaces and promote Zero Waste practises. You will create opportunities for the community to participate in safe well-organised volunteer efforts leading our communities towards environmental sustainability.

This is a unique opportunity for someone looking for a role to inspire South Auckland communities to come together to safeguard our shared environment. This is a 6-month fixed term position for 40 hours per week.

About the role

Were looking for a confident self-motivated and adaptable person who can co-ordinate projects with groups of all ages. Your day-to-day responsibilities would be varied and include:

  • Leading on an Illegal Dumping and Flood Resilience workplan to promote neighbourhood resilience and reduce waste
  • Collaborating with the wider Community Team and key stakeholders to support the delivery of annual events like Eye on Nature Wearable Arts
  • Manage and coordinate the delivery of community engagement activities that extend into waste education climate action kai programmes and more.
  • Coordinating regular working bee opportunities for the community i.e. litter pick-ups pest plant removal planting projects and more
  • Coordinating Tool Library orders and approving Tiaki Fund requests
  • Representing our trusts initiatives and programmes at regular Community Network Meetings and in collaborative working groups
  • Provide support in staffing Trust events and activities.

About you

  • Confidence in leading and collaborating with other people
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated and organised with proven excellence in project management
  • Conservation and sustainability expertise and knowledge are preferred
  • A strict eye for Health and Safety compliance
  • Proven organisational skills and computer literacy with Microsoft apps.
  • Effective problem solving and exceptional time management skills.
  • Full drivers license to use Trusts vehicles.
  • Flexibility to work the occasional weekend or evening
