The Opportunity
The Executive Director of Solution Engineering (Bank) is a visionary and technically astute leader responsible for guiding the banks top-tier solution engineering team. This role demands a deep understanding of banking domains enterprise architecture and IT strategy. The leader will serve as a trusted advisor to the CIO translating complex business needs into scalable secure and innovative technical solutions. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills to engage with General Managers and business leaders evaluate vendor technologies and recommend strategic solutions that align with the banks business needs and roadmap.
This role is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. However individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office will be expected to work on-site four days per week.
What youll do:
Lead and mentor a high-performing team of Solution Engineers focused on delivering enterprise-grade banking solutions.
Translate business strategies and requirements into comprehensive technical solution designs.
Collaborate with senior business stakeholders to understand strategic goals and proactively identify technology opportunities.
Evaluate recommend and integrate vendor products and emerging technologies that align with the banks objectives.
Ensure architectural consistency scalability and security across all solution designs.
Maintain and evolve reference architectures blueprints and portfolio-level designs.
Drive innovation and thought leadership in banking technology domains.
Partner with Enterprise Architecture Information Security Infrastructure and Application teams to ensure cohesive solution delivery.
Communicate technical strategies and risks effectively to executive leadership.
Establish governance and best practices for solution engineer across the bank.
Represent the bank in external technical forums and contribute to industry thought leadership.
Demonstrate high accountability and ownership for solution outcomes and architectural integrity.
Participating in activities that support the USAA technology ecosystem such as workstream planning solution design reviews and troubleshooting.
Continuously assess and improve architectural/solutioning practices and team capabilities.
Foster a culture of excellence innovation and continuous improvement within the solution engineering team.
What you have:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science Information Technology or related field.
Masters degree preferred.
12 years of experience in software development enterprise architecture or IT strategy.
5 years in a leadership role managing technical teams in a banking or financial services environment.
Proven experience in designing and implementing large-scale secure and scalable IT solutions.

Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence enterprise-wide technology decisions.
Strategic mindset with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and innovation.
Familiarity with Agile DevSecRegOps and modern software development methodologies.
US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
Preferred Certifications
TOGAF
AWS/Azure Architect
Salary: The salary range for this position is: $169880-$305780.
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
