Job Description

Operations Manager

Responsible for overseeing the day to day running of this team.

About the Role

Our sports maintenance division has an opportunity for an Operations Manager to oversee day to day running of this team. Our sports teams are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Aucklands sports fields and cricket pitches.

This role will suit candidates with previous experience in the Turf industry and technically sound knowledge of general sport field maintenance disease and pest identification and how to address these accompanied by irrigation knowledge and sports code changeover.

Leading a varied team of qualified and experienced staff along with trainees you will enjoy being accessible and visible to your team. Reporting directly to the Area Manager there is a further support through the wider team of Operations Managers dedicated trainers and health and safety advisor.

This is primarily a leadership and management role although you will be in the field and hands on at times. It is your capability to plan organise and communicate (written and verbal) that will see you excel in this role. You will be comfortable working with financial and operational data and being able to use this to ensure your team meets the relevant KPIs that it drives.

What you will be doing

  • Overseeing a specialist turf team consisting of Cricket Grounds people Turf Technicians Line markers Sprayer Mower Operators and Trainees to deliver a high standard of work to pre-set schedules to competition standards.
  • Daily and weekly reporting to management
  • Running toolbox talks
  • Liaising with stakeholders as a direct point of communication and the face of Ventia
  • Working with the inhouse HS advisor to drive and lead a positive safety culture.
  • Support ongoing team development
  • Auditing work to ensure quality and safety
  • Managing your teams schedule of work
  • Ordering of materials

About You

  • Have previous experience in Turf Management
  • Minimum level 3 Sports Turf Qualification ideally Level 4 also.
  • Proven experience building and managing teams
  • Previous experience delivering to a pre-set schedule of work in a commercial environment
  • Have effective planning and organisational skills
  • Strong communication
  • Previous experience client facing or stakeholder management
  • Good physical fitness.
  • Full Class 1 Manual NZ drivers licence
