Ko tu ake mahi - What youll do
Bring your strategic and systems policy experience to lead and support the Ministrys work to provide advice on the parameters rules and incentives which govern the health system.
Joining the Strategy Group you will have a part in influencing the strategic direction for the health system to improve New Zealands health outcomes.
We provide high quality policy advice to the Ministers and government to inform the decisions they make on the health portfolio at a system level.
Within the Strategy Group the System Accountability and Settings team is responsible for designing embedding and reviewing the settings that hold the health system accountable for delivering on government priorities statutory functions and public expectations.
In this role you will lead and contribute to high-impact cross cutting work focused on improving how the system is designed directed and held to account. This includes:
- Designing embedding and reviewing policy settings to ensure the health system is set up to deliver Government priorities.
- Advising on Government priorities for the health system including through the Government Policy Statement on Health.
- Lead preparation and drafting of policy advice documents legislation.
- Contributing to the wider strategy and policy work of the Ministry and health system
At a Senior level you will be ready to take the lead whilst sharing your knowledge and mentoring analysts to grow their policy skills. You are open to learning from others seeking opportunities through your work to further grow both your written and analytical skillsets whilst demonstrating core leadership skills when leading of pieces of work.
You will be:
- a strategic and systems thinker with strong analytical and policy skills
- an excellent relationship manager and highly collaborative
- able to demonstrate a strong understanding of how legislative and regulatory instruments can be applied to deliver better economic and social outcomes and improve health outcomes.

- Understanding of the machinery of government and an ability to understand strategic system issues
