Job Description

  • Bridge the gap between policy and practice strengthening data use across research teaching and operations
  • Enhance visibility and governance of critical data assets empowering safe adoption of emerging technologies
  • Full time fixed term until December 2026 based in Hobart Launceston or Burnie

About the opportunity

Lead the implementation of technical controls using Microsoft Purview and Azure-based platforms. Support the adoption of consistent data classification lifecycle and protection practices and prepare for future opportunities. The position also provides capability uplift through the development of practical guidance stakeholder engagement and training resources. It requires a balance of technical proficiency excellent communication skills and a collaborative service-oriented mindset.

What youll do:

  • Support the Director of Data and Digital Research to implement the data governance framework across the University.
  • Successfully configure and implement sensitivity labels data loss prevention and retention policies.
  • Actively contribute technical advice and change support to data governance working groups.
  • Collaborate with the Learning Coordinator and other stakeholders to develop and curate a suite of accessible role-relevant training materials improving staff understanding of data handling.
  • Contribute to the development of a high-level inventory of data assets enabling better discovery accountability and risk management.

What were looking for:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Systems Cloud Engineering Data Management or a related field or equivalent demonstrated experience and competence (Microsoft Azure or Purview certifications desirable).
  • Demonstrated experience translating data governance or compliance frameworks into operational practice including the application of classification protection and lifecycle policies.
  • Ability to develop review or curate data handling and compliance-related training materials or guidance in collaboration with education and capability teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work across academic technical and administrative domains to drive implementation provide technical advice and build alignment.
  • An understanding of higher education and research contexts particularly in relation to data privacy ethics and regulatory frameworks will be highly regarded.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 8 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $152033 comprising base salary within the range of $114282 to $129943 plus 17% superannuation.
