Job Description

The Amherst Public School Districts are seeking qualified candidates for a full time one year interim Occupational Therapist at Wildwood Elementary School.

The Occupational Therapist functions as a member of the total diagnostic team by providing comprehensive differential diagnosis assessment educational planning for students with disorders including but not limited to self-regulation sensory processing fine motor visual motor integration adaptive living skills etc.

Occupational Therapy services may be delivered in a variety of ways by the occupational therapist alone or in collaboration with other service providers and includes consultation direct services etc. Provides occupational therapy services through a collaborative-trans disciplinary model of intervention and across curriculum with the emphasis on being able to access the curriculum in the least restrictive environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

The following reflects some of but not all of the qualifications and responsibilities of this position:

  • Case management
  • Therapy and treatment planning and implementation
  • Writing IEPs or contributing to IEPs
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments and providing consultation
  • Experience with a range of learner profiles including mild/moderate and intensive special needs and atypical learning profiles
  • Experience with students on the autism spectrum data collection and applied behavior analysis
  • Experience with administering and interpreting formal and informal assessments as well as strong interpretation and report writing skills
  • Experience with assistive technologies and adaptive equipment
  • Experience with and commitment to inclusion that benefits students academically and social/emotionally
  • Ability to work closely collaboratively and effectively with a team of teachers service providers and families
  • Strong ability to work as a member of a professional learning community and multi-disciplinary team
  • Highly effective executive function skills including being well organized strong time management and scheduling skills and able to work independently to meet time lines
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills that promote and encourage collaboration with colleagues parents and administrators
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work within a fast paced environment focused on student learning data collection and measurable outcomes
  • Strong positive interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with students staff administration and families

REQUIRED: License for Occupational Therapy

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to assist students perform tasks speak to deliver instruction and behavioral directives and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand walk sit reach with hands and arms; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee may also be required to use physical interventions to maintain the safety of students.
