Job Title

Your Role and Responsibilities

  • Analyze design test and maintain satellite propulsion systems.
  • Perform mission analysis to determine thruster specifications and select suitable suppliers.
  • Integrate thrusters into the satellites Concept of Operations (CONOPS) defining operational modes including nominal and safe modes.
  • Collaborate with design teams (e.g. structural thermal avionics operations) to ensure seamless integration of thrusters into the satellite design.
  • Support the testing and validation of thrusters during the satellites Assembly Integration and Testing (AIT) phase.
  • Develop flight software to control thrusters including functions for normal operations calibration and Fault Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR).
  • Work with embedded software engineers to integrate thruster control software with the overall flight software.
  • Create and maintain thruster simulation models for use in simulation environments including Model In the Loop Simulation (MILS) and Hardware In the Loop Simulation (HILS).
  • Contribute to the launch campaign by designing checkout procedures and supporting the Operations team during the checkout process.
  • Post-launch assist the Operations team in monitoring and maintaining the propulsion system.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of components prepare thrusters for operation and address any issues that arise.

Experience and Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering Control Engineering or Electrical Engineering is required. Equivalent education and/or experience will also be considered.
  • A minimum of 3 years of practical experience with spacecraft electric propulsion systems.
  • In-depth understanding of the design development testing and control of electric propulsion systems.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing implementing and testing control algorithms with MATLAB Simulink and Stateflow.
  • Experience modeling physical components using MATLAB Simulink and Simscape.
  • Experience with model identification.
