About the Position
Reporting directly to the IT Lead and working within the Portfolio & Capital domain the Senior Software Engineer will design and build software solutions for RenaissanceRe users. The role is based in the Dublin office.
We are seeking a talented highly motivated Senior Software Engineer with experience in designing and developing distributed python systems in a cloud environment. The successful candidate will work within our development team building next generation solutions on AWS for our Risk & Underwriting business unit. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with an energetic and enthusiastic approach who wishes to grow their development architectural and leadership skillsets through working in a highly collaborative fast paced and rapidly changing business environment.

The Portfolio & Capital engineering team manages high performant solutions at the head of RenaissanceRes risk portfolios management strategy and supports a global user base. Key Relationships
Reports to: IT Lead
Key Responsibilities
Partner with stakeholders to establish key requirements for our solutions. Then working with the engineering team to design and develop software solutions and related processes to meet and exceed the requirements of the business.
Support our applications and tools through their lifecycle of requirements development testing deployment documentation operation user training maintenance and enhancement.
Ensure stability integrity accuracy timeliness and usability of existing solutions.
Understand and contribute to our strategic architecture initiatives and act as a day-to-day champion to progress these forward within the domain.
Produce code following the established engineering standards.
Meet or exceed the quality reliability resilience scalability and stability goals.
Collaborate with all stakeholders in establishing refining and documenting database and other functional requirements.
Using specialist knowledge to inform the teams technical decisions.
Contributing to the review selection and adoption of proprietary and third-party solutions.
Ensuring compliance with relevant company standards and guidelines.
Contributing to the technological and methodological direction of software within the development team and the company.

Candidate Qualifications:
Extensive experience working in Python with domain expertise architecting designing and developing end-to-end solutions.
A degree level education in a relevant discipline or equivalent industry experience.
A detailed knowledge of Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment practices with practical knowledge of DevOps principles.
Demonstrable analytic and problem-solving skills.
Flexibility to work independently or as part of a team is required.
Technical Skills:
Required:
Working experience in AWS Platform (or other cloud service like Microsoft Azure).
Proficiency in SQL (essential) and Python.
Experience working in AWS with Lambda Fargate Step Functions etc.
A passion for learning new concepts and technologies.
Nice to have:
AWS Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional) or AWS Certified Developer (Associate) or AWS Certified Data Engineer (Associate)
Working knowledge of Docker Kubernetes AWS EKS etc.
Working knowledge of infrastructure as code tooling such as CDK or Serverless.
Prior experience working in Financial Services/Insurance industry is a plus.
