We are seeking a creative dynamic committed professional to join our team:

GRADUATION COACH FOR INDIGENOUS STUDENTS

Position Status: 1.0 Term Assignment to August 31 2026 (12 month work year)
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 35 hours per week
Affiliation: OSSTF District 25 - Educational Support Professionals (ESP)
Salary range: September 1 2025 rates: $64280 to $80877 (Level 8)

Note: This is a central position; school location will be determined based on program needs and is subject to change.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Principal of Indigenous Education the Graduation Coach will support Indigenous students in the Graduation Coach Program for Indigenous Students by:

  • Acting as a mentor and advisor to students.

  • Collaborating with school-based staff system staff and community partners to address individual and systemic barriers (academic mental health justice cultural knowledge).

  • Identifying and addressing individual barriers to engagement learning and well-being.

  • Facilitating access to academic support and community resources.

  • Supporting the holistic well-being of First Nations Mtis and Inuit children and youth.

Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • Diploma or degree in Social Work Child and Youth Work Counselling or a related field.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience working with youth preferably in an educational or community-based setting.

  • Comprehensive first-hand life experience deeply rooted in local Indigenous communities.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as First Nations Mtis or Inuit.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous traditional teachings culture perspectives values and history with deep connections to the local Indigenous community.

  • Understanding of the diversity and composition of Indigenous communities.

  • Ability to identify systemic barriers and appropriate intervention points.

  • Awareness of local community resources and proven ability to support students and families in accessing and navigating these resources.

  • Excellent communication interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

  • An inclusive approach to relationship building and the demonstrated ability to build rapport with various stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities sound judgment and cultural sensitivity.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and advise Indigenous youth with empathy and respect.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a large caseload prioritize effectively and maintain accurate records.

  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and contentious issues with discretion and confidentiality.

  • Access to reliable transportation for local travel to schools and home visits when required.

In accordance with the collective agreement a newly hired regular employee is not eligible to accept another position for a period of six (6) months.
