Job Description

The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise Idaho. Summary

This job exists to ensure efficient operation of all boiler equipment in the plant. This includes maintenance sanitation troubleshooting and repair of all mechanical components. The individual in this job will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the boiler area throughout the plant and have the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates.

The boiler mechanic is a member of the maintenance team which includes wet end mechanics packaging mechanics electricians process control technicians grounds waste disposal attendants team leaders area supervisors and the department manager. This position reports primarily to the Boiler/Refrigeration maintenance supervisor and to the maintenance team leader and shift manager on shift.

The individual in this position must be capable of performing mechanical repairs in all areas of their responsibility and be fully capable of operating all Boiler equipment and support systems.

The individual in this position must establish and maintain open communications and productive work relationships with maintenance team leaders operators attendants laborers mechanics maintenance supervisors the shift manager and all area team leaders.
The area of work includes both inside the facility and outside depending on work requirements. Weekend and overtime work in this position is common and may be required to meet operational goals. This position requires the ability to work in extreme environments of both hot and cold.
The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the boiler system and have the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates. It is imperative the boiler mechanics conduct themselves in a manner that ensures alertness and constant awareness of the safe operation of equipment and its surroundings.

Key Responsibilities

Maintains necessary level of communication with team members and other support groups and does so in a participative management style conducive with operational goals.
Maintains Company standards for safety quality food safety sanitation and GMPs.
Diagnoses troubleshoots overhauls and repairs equipment in the boiler and refrigeration and all other utility systems to minimize downtime.
Performs welding for repair and fabrication as preventative maintenance on all boiler air conditioning and refrigeration equipment throughout the facility.
Observes and tests system operation using gauges and with control panel interface screens and HMIs and knows how to react to alarms and items that need attention from the control system.
Tests lines components and connections for boiler feed water condensate and cooling tower water analysis and makes necessary adjustments to maintain desirable results.
Monitors the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO).
Responsible for fryer and dryer exhaust systems compressed air system domestic water hot water air handlers glycol systems and cleaning chemical distribution systems.
Maintains the DAFT (Dissolved Air Flotation for oil skimming).

Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Relevant Experience

2.5 years related experience and/or training

Required Certifications

Must obtain CIRO certification within 1 year and 2 years experience OR recognized boiler safety training. Must provide required tools.

Other Information

Must be able to read understand and communicate in English in a manner to successfully complete job duties.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. (heavy valves motors etc.)
Must be able to use a computer and successfully navigate through various applications. Must be proficient at computer system data entry.
Must be able to stand on concrete floors for long periods of time.
Must be able to work in extreme environments (cold hot humid and slippery).
Must have a basic knowledge and understanding of HVAC equipment and be able to change filters belts and do other minor repairs.
Must have a practical mechanical background and manual dexterity in both hands.
Must be able to read and interpret written instructions manufacturers manuals material safety data sheets and engineering drawings.
Must possess or obtain in first week of job a Simplot forklift license.
Applicants must be available to work any shift (7am-7 pm or 7pm-7am).
Must have good communication math and computer skills.
Physical activities include walking bending stair and ladder climbing and lifting up to 40 lbs. on a daily basis.
