COMPENSATION INFORMATION
The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. While we strive to provide competitive and transparent compensation there may be circumstances where an offer is above or outside of the listed range. We are open to discussing salary expectations with qualified candidates considering factors such as the candidates qualifications skills competencies experience and geographic location will all be considered during the hiring process.

  • Engineer I Pay Range: $80000 - $85000

Come join our team as an Engineer I in the Engineer Rotation Program

Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is looking for a motivated Engineer I to join our Engineering Rotation Program. This unique opportunity offers recent engineering graduates or early-career professionals hands-on experience across multiple departments within SPP.

The program is designed to provide a well-rounded foundation in electrical engineering within the power transmission industry. As part of this program you will rotate through key areas such as Electric Power Transmission Planning Tariff Studies and Modeling & Data Coordination. These rotations will equip you with the technical regulatory and collaborative skills needed for long-term success at SPP.

Key Responsibilities:

Support electrical engineering analyses related to transmission planning tariff studies and network modeling.

  • Rotate across multiple departments to gain cross-functional knowledge and exposure.
  • Develop technical proficiency in power systems concepts and related software tools.
  • Assist in studies and assignments directed by planning services teams stakeholders or internal committees.
  • Apply basic engineering judgment with oversight from experienced professionals.
  • Support project teams in meeting deadlines and achieving deliverables.
  • Develop a working knowledge of governing processes including SPP Tariffs FERC and NERC guidelines.

To be successful as the Engineer I in the Engineer Rotation Program were looking for:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering this degree should:
    • Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation)
    • Degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Industrial Engineering Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering
  • Engineer I - No experience necessary
  • Competent with the administrative and communication tools for word processing spread sheet
  • development and time keeping as a minimum
  • Intermediate proficiency with most SPP power systems analysis tools with a solid command of several SPP
  • tools and/or processes
  • Practical understanding of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff FERC & NERC governing documents
  • SPP By-Laws SPP Criteria and the SPP Committee structure
  • Intermediate knowledge of several power systems analysis tools applicable to power system steady state
  • dynamic short circuit or database management systems
  • Strong inter-personal and team work skills along with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Competent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office
  • Word Excel Access

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in related field of study

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 extended hours may be required.

Travel Requirement:

  • This position requires moderate travel (approximately 10%)
