Position Summary:

Our Chicago office has an amazing opportunity for a Restructuring and Bankruptcy Legal Assistant who is looking to be part of a dynamic team. This role is perfect for the legal assistant who is looking to work in a cutting-edge office of one of the nations fastest growing law firms and assist attorneys in an energetic fast-paced environment.

The Restructuring and Bankruptcy Legal Assistant handles complex and specialized administrative and clerical support activities related to the specific work and function of the timekeeper(s) to whom they are assigned. The Legal Assistant plays a key role in providing support to their assigned attorneys as well as coordinating travel calendaring and other support needs. The attorneys are looking for a contributor who wants to be an involved member of their team.

Essential Functions:

  1. Prepare revise redline and proofread relating to restructuring and bankruptcy documents including motions pleadings withdraws stipulations objections COS proof of claims motion binders (with indexing and cover pages) engagement letters shells for answers and briefs proof of exhibits commercial and real estate loan modifications lien disputes foreclosures etc.
  2. Assist with preparing documents for filing in state federal and bankruptcy courts inclusive of pleadings and motions creating pro hac vice documents and case management using Best Case Bankruptcy.
  3. Perform initial conflict checks and open/close client matters track and manage DocuSigns and issue invoices to clients.
  4. Create and maintain client and administrative files in accordance with firm procedures including within the document management system.
  5. Proactive utilization of workflow management system to manage assignments from timekeepers maintain an organized workload and assist others during PTO or peak periods.
  6. Schedule appointments including meeting invites video conference details conference room requests meal requests etc. and maintains attorneys calendar.
  7. Enter and release attorneys billable time in accordance with firm guidelines. Review proformas for billings received from the Accounting Department to clients for services rendered.
  8. Monitor case deadlines and work with Docket Department to ensure deadlines are entered and met.
  9. Coordinate travel arrangements and track travel expenses for timely reimbursement.
  10. Communicate professionally and promptly with internal and external clients to deliver a high level of customer service consistent with the Firms First in Service philosophy.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Proactively participates as a member of the practice group support coverage team.
  2. Completion of the Legal Technology Core Competencies Certification Coalition (LTC4) Program to ensure technology efficiency.
  3. Stay current in the use of all firm systems and practices.
  4. May require overtime or weekend hours.
  5. Perform additional office support duties as assigned/requested.

Qualifications:

Legal Assistants must have a High School Diploma in addition to three years of bankruptcy experience preferably with Chapters 7 and 11. Must be able to handle multiple priorities at one time work well with others and have excellent communication skills. Comprehensive knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel Outlook PowerPoint Word) and PDF software. Working knowledge of Best Case Bankruptcy or similar software is required. Experience with InTapp Time Intapp Open Chrome River Expense Reporting Aderant Interaction iManage are pluses. Must possess an excellent customer service attitude.

The salary range for this position is $82K to $100K.

Base pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Base pay is only one part of the Total Rewards that Benesch provides to compensate and recognize our staff professionals for their work. Full-time positions are eligible for a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
