Job Title: Diocesan Investigator Status: Full time Exemption Status: Exempt Salary Grade: 30 Department/Location: Diocese of Tucson Pastoral Center Tucson AZ
Primary Function: Under the direction of the Bishop of the Diocese of Tucson and the administrative direction of the of the Human Resources (HR) Director and Office of Child Adolescent and Adult Protection (OCAAP) Manager the Investigator is responsible for conducting documenting and tracking HR and OCAAP investigations as assigned. The investigator is responsible for developing and presenting with professionalism and integrity investigation reports including identification of issues conclusions and recommendations for improvement. The employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received. (Eph. 4:1) Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the Diocese by speaking acting and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The employee may not espouse in word or deed any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
- In a professional manner conduct required interviews and research for investigations for the Diocese of Tucson to include completing administrative requirements and investigative reports.
- Ensure all investigations are properly conducted as necessary and generate periodic reports as requested by the Bishop of the Diocese of Tucson for the Sexual Misconduct Review Board Ethic Committee or any other applicable Board or Committee.
- Prepare the necessary documentation for case review as required and necessary under the direction of the Bishop of the Diocese of Tucson HR Director and/or OCAAP Manager.
- Maintain physical and electronic records documentation and reports of all investigations to include supporting workpapers.
- Ensure records and reports are properly documented and archived for all cases (active closed and archived) in the Diocese of Tucson.
- Exercise balanced and prudent judgment empathy sensitivity and patience in the application and interpretation of all elements and mandates of the Guidelines.
- Foster communication and work collaboratively with the Bishop of the Diocese of Tucson the Sexual Misconduct Review Board Ethics Committee all diocesan personnel and other individuals and entities that become involved with or that are related to the work of OCAAP and HR.
- Maintain professional technical and working knowledge of relevant issues laws and regulations by attending educational workshops; reviews of professional publications; networking benchmarking of state-of-the-art practices; and participation in professional organizations.
- Maintain confidentiality of information at all times; respect the privacy of all involved with the Diocese of Tucson Safe Environment Program OCAAP and HR.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.
Required Activities: Walking sitting standing stooping reaching talking handling hearing carrying and typing.
Basic Qualifications:
- A working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church; must also be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church
- Excellent communications skills including written verbal public speaking and presentation skills.
- Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player.
- Be able to travel and be available for evening and weekend work as necessary; have reliable transportation.
- Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in the use of computer technology including word processing and the use of excel and related technology; ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a ministerial environment.
- The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
- Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance.
Education and Experience:
- Possess a bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Business or Public Administration similar discipline or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of five years experience in a high-activity environment.
- A minimum of ten years experience as an investigator.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
- Masters degree in a related field.
- Prior law enforcement experience or experience in personnel investigations in Human Resources or a similar environment.
