Scope: The Digital Organizer is responsible for managing the Chapters digital tools social media and communications channels that support the Chapters organizing function community building and campaign goals. The Digital Organizer oversees volunteer engagement with Sierra Club social media and Sierra Club digital tools such as Campfire/Salesforce assists with the development of grassroots power and networks through our digital mediums and supports the Chapters data-informed decision-making orientation. This position is responsible for triaging multiple campaign outcomes and priorities to develop a welcoming and engaging online experience for target audiences relating to ads email social media mobile and emerging digital organizing platforms and rooting our digital content strategies in equity and justice.
Job activities include but are not limited to:
Identify creative effective and strategic digital opportunities to grow our activist and membership base engage supporters online move them up the ladder of engagement and mobilize them to support the Sierra Clubs work and mission. With the support of the manager ensures that campaigns are rooted in equity and justice and inclusive of frontline and directly impacted communities.
Works with the manager and Chapter staff to develop opt-in pathways and audience development strategies to deepen relationships with members and volunteer leaders. Identify and implement new strategies and tests to support online to offline integration. Assists the organizing team with outreach and communication with new members supporters and volunteers.
Work closely with team members to set benchmarks and key performance indicators (KPIs) for key organizing and campaign goals track performance against them and optimize to meet them. Use data tracking and results to monitor optimize and analyze emails texts and social media performance.
Support Chapter staff and volunteers with accessing and utilizing digital tools (e.g. Salesforce) data gathering and reporting and implementing new digital solutions. Manage digital intake processes online community/volunteer outreach and provide technical support for online Chapter engagement ie. webinars meetings recordings etc.
Work with the organizing team and Communications manager to develop and oversee the use of Chapter social media including but not limited to Meta (Facebook Instagram) TikTok Reddit and other digital platforms such as Slack/Discord email listservs etc. Operate within a broad Chapter communications / organizing calendar for social media content creation and posting and working with national staff to ensure that social media outreach aligns with Club campaigns and priorities. Provides support to NC Sierra Club local Group volunteers and networks with their social media operations. Oversees moderation of Chapter social media channels to promote healthy and inclusive engagement for all staff volunteers and participants.
Assist with digital support of in-person event planning and productionsuch as digital recruitment participation tracking posting and promoting online events through Sierra Club digital networks and communicating/coordinating with event planners and participants.
Builds a healthy mutually accountable relationships with Chapter staff volunteers and community partners to carry out Sierra Club priorities. Seeks opportunities to advance justice and equity through new partnerships with frontline and marginalized community clear expectations capacity and works in strategic alignment to accomplish Sierra Clubs priority goals. Build and host inclusive coalitional spaces where these groups/people can build stronger relationships and successfully collaborate to build power and advance shared goals.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following skills experience and competencies:
Digital Organizing Experience: Experience using a wide variety of digital tools to engage and communicate with target audiences and communities. Event planning & promotion lead/volunteer engagement/management online communications etc. Experience using online tools to further grassroots political or community work is a plus!
Tech/Digital Tools: Experience using and training on a variety of constituent management and engagement tools such as Zoom G-Suite Salesforce various social media and other peer-to-peer texting and organizing platforms. The ideal candidate will demonstrate administrative experience with CRM (Salesforce or comparable software) and general fluency and flexibility with digital tools.
Social Media Management: Experience using and managing social media platforms such as Meta suite (Facebook Instagram) short-form content creation (eg TikTok) online communities (eg Slack Discord & WhatsApp) and staying abreast of changing trends in media markets outlets and social media platforms. Experience with implementing and tracking social media advertising and data tracking is a plus.
Data Management: Experience working with datasets and supporting data-informed decision-making. Demonstrable experience with tools such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Experience collecting and using quantitative data (for example numbers of people engaged) and qualitative data (for instance stories about people taking action) to inform and evaluate organizing work. Experience with statistical analysis (including tools such as Stata SAS or R) would be a plus.
Effective communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to clearly articulate ideas and communicate effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders internally and externally. Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for persuasive communication with individuals on a daily basis including digital communication phone and text contacts.

Knowledge of environmental and energy issues and either expertise or an ability to develop expertise in regional energy climate justice and/or conservation areas.
Connection to the North Carolina grassroots environmental justice ecosystem
Experience working in coalition with community partners.
Experience working in digital organizing for the non-profit sector.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $65000 annually.
This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract between Sierra Club and Progressive Workers Union.
