Academy of Art University is seeking a Shop Technician for the Schools of Architecture Interior Architecture & Design and Landscape Architecture for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters. Shop Technicians work directly with students faculty and staff on a variety of matters that ensure efficient and effective utilization of resources within the Universitys labs equipment facilities and shop spaces. If you have experience with CNC laser cutter and 3D printers this might the be role for you. Responsibilities range from handing out tools and providing solid advice to maintaining machinery. This is an optimal opportunity for artists with CNC experience!
Responsibilities:
- Submit supply requests of materials and parts requiring replacement to Shop Manager and Lead Technician
- Provide support to students using CNC table saw band saw laser cutter and 3D printers
- Perform junior-level network administration for Windows and Mac network environment.
- Perform software and hardware installation troubleshooting and upgrades
- Assist students with any software/hardware issues that may arise
- Provide support and assistance to the Department Director
- Provide support to department for Spring Show and other events as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service. Provide a cordial and friendly presence to students faculty and staff.
- Maintain guidelines set forth by the Academy of Art University
- Maintain a clean functional and productive learning environment
- Protect equipment from theft or vandalism
- Participate in and adhere to the cross-training program for lab and shop technicians ensuring the ability to perform multiple roles and support operations effectively during periods of short staffing as required by the University with comprehensive training provided.
Pay: $24.00/hour
Shift: Monday through Friday 8 hour shifts
Benefits: Academy of Art University offers medical benefits for Technicians that work on a full-time basis. Part-time and full-time Technicians may also attend one tuition-free undergraduate class per semester. Part-time and full-time Technicians also accrue paid sick leave may enroll for a tax-free commuter program and a 401k program.
