The Transportation division at Amazon Japan is looking to hire a Business Intelligence Engineer to lead the Data and Algorithm teams and drive the development of necessary Algorithms Heuristic models and solutions for the business.
Our company operates Japans largest e-commerce marketplace. Timely product procurement and on-time deliveries are core to our service but the logistics and retail industry environment is constantly evolving. Maintaining high-quality service for customers amidst these changing conditions is a critical competitive factor for us.
As Amazon Japan continues to grow our expanding supply chain is becoming increasingly complex requiring greater efficiency visibility and quality of decision-making in our business operations. We are looking for an Engineer to lead a team that can leverage AWS and Amazons proprietary tools to provide optimal models and solutions to address these challenges.

Provide model and solution for complex high-business-impact challenges. Architect and design these solutions collaborating with other engineering teams as needed.
Lead the team from a technical standpoint. Support other engineers in translating their challenges into computationally feasible forms and implementing robust efficient and maintainable solutions.
Work with the Manager to establish engineering standards (e.g. accuracy efficiency) and operational standards (e.g. quality consistency reliability) and build mechanisms to uphold them.
Define together with the Manager metrics to measure the teams progress data/solution quality and the state of engineering and operations.
Think strategically and make tradeoffs as your decisions will impact the organizations infrastructure (including resources and costs).
Communicate ideas effectively both verbally and in writing to all types of stakeholders. Produce strategic documentation.
Lead projects with limited guidance.

10:30 AM Receive an explanation from a colleague about a new distributed processing tool they implemented. Im excited that it now has the Beam Search Management feature Ive been wanting.
11:00 AM Design combination optimization code with the project team. Run it in a notebook completing the mornings work.
12:00 PM Lunch. Try the tandoori chicken from this weeks menu - exotic!
1:30 PM Scrum Daily Meeting. Check in on colleagues progress and exchange information. Looks like insights from a graph theory project could help improve the order of the exploration space.
2:00 PM Flash discussion with the business side to align on implementation ideas.
2:30 PM Get a massage at the office to relieve my shoulder tension. Heavenly.
3:00 PM Leave the office for the day continuing work remotely.
4:00 PM Review the results of the combinatorial optimization job. Its definitely improving. Maybe combining it with a GA would be even better.
6:00 PM Prepare for tomorrows Project Weekly. Check team members progress on Slack and provide some advance advice. Save the figures someone created in a notebook.
6:30 PM Do a code review leaving a few comments before approving.

Our team provides Data-driven solutions and our main missions are the following three:
1: Overhaul and maintain a large-scale Data Mart to comprehensively manage and analyze trunk transportation information
2: Provide machine learning optimization algorithm solutions utilizing the data from the above 1
3: Provide Data Pipeline and Dashboard solutions to derive Business Insights using the data from the above 1
In particular there is a growing demand in the area 2 and we are accelerating the development.
- Experience with SQL
- Experience using Cloud Storage and Computing technologies such as AWS Redshift S3 Hadoop etc.
- 4 year experience of System Engineer / Business intelligence Eegineer or related filed including Freerancer
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
- Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
- Experience with AWS technologies
- Masters degree in statistics data science or an equivalent quantitative field
- Knoledge of Algorithm such as Graph Theory and Combinational Optimization
- Academic Contribution such as accepting and presenting papers at peer-reviewed international conferences
- Experience to won Prize / Good Rating on Programing contest such as Atcoder ICPC Codeforces Kaggle
- Experience of Developing Distributed Solution
