Reports To: Principal (and if applicable the Custodial Supervisor)

Supervises: Custodians or Helpers when supervisory responsibility is specifically assigned

Position Purpose: To provide the upkeep maintenance cleanliness safety and security of the assigned building so a safe clean environment will be available for teaching and learning.

Qualifications:

• Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
• Ability to follow instructions
• Understanding of custodial duties
• Knowledge of occupational hazards safety precautions hazardous materials and proper way to perform the assigned duty
• Ability to perform work independently according to prescribed standards and procedures
• Ability to work in varied weather and temperature conditions
• Possess communication and team building skills

Physical/Emotional Requirements: (The incumbent may be required to use thefollowing skills and abilities during any part of the working day.) Speaking hearing visual bending/stooping walking reaching. Position is rated as a Level 4 lifting/carrying 50-100 lbs occasionally 25-50 lbs frequently and 10-20 lbs continuously. Individuals employed at the high school and middle school level are eligible for employment if a score of 3 or 4 is accomplished on the physical capacity test. Individuals scoring a 3 are limited to Level 3 medium work unless assisted 20-50 lbs lifting/carrying occasionally 10-25 lbs frequently and up to 10 lbs continuously. Failure to comply with physical limits established by physical capacity test will result in disciplinary action for unsafe practice. This physical requirement revision was requested and approved by the Worker Compensation Committee on.

Elementary custodians will be required to meet Level 4 physical requirements.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Respond to requests for services in a timely and courteous manner
2. Perform maintenance and/or repair tasks in accordance with appropriate standards and procedures
3. Complete a variety of work assignments as assigned
4. Clean and maintain the building interiors including floors and carpeting walls furniture window glass mirrors ceilings andsimilar areas
5. Perform routine maintenance on such items as lights mechanical equipment filters furniture ceiling tile andsimilar areas
6. Report any unsafe conditions or needed building repair at times by requisition to the building principal
7. Requisition and maintain the proper supply of custodial materials and equipment
8. Respond to staff and/or administration in a courteous and helpful manner
9. Recommend and monitor the custodial budget and record of expenditures and prepare reports and maintain records as assigned
10. Provide outdoor school ground clean-up and safety including such activities as the care of grass plants trash and outdoor equipment such as basketball courts and equipment
11. Ensure building is open and secure at the proper times
12. Assist in snow removal or other related duties as assigned
13. Accomplish assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner
14. Operate and care for equipment
15. Consult with supervisor about various job problems
16. Demonstrate professional image through appearance language and work ethic
17. Accomplish in a safe and efficient manner tasks such as sweeping scrubbing mopping vacuuming dusting waxing polishing emptying waste receptacles cleaning restrooms and water fountains washing windows and walls replacing light bulbs and filters setting up and removing school equipment and furniture making minor building repairs and performing preventative maintenance
18. Prepare building for successful inspections
19. Ensure proper working fire extinguishers fire alarms emergency lights smoke detectors andsimilar devices
20. Perform related duties as assigned

Terms of Employment:

12 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
