Job Title: Public Health Epidemiologist

General Position Summary
* MUST BE AN OREGON RESIDENT* This position identifies analyzes interprets and tracks community health data for Klamath County Public Health. Engages with staff as well as local regional and statewide partners to identify data and data needs. Creates written and graphic reports to inform community members and decision makers on health-related issues or interventions. This position will work closely with administrative staff and assist with program-specific data inquiries performance management quality improvement community health assessment and community health improvement plan work. Requires a high level of skill and knowledge base in public health biostatistics epidemiology data collection and analysis and data visualization. This position may also assist with case investigation in the event of an outbreak.
Essential Functions
The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.
Collects monitors and analyzes data on significant health issues and trends of Klamath County citizens.
Assists in developing community health assessment data collection tools and conduct data analysis. Assist with community health improvement plan data tracking and analysis.
Gather review and analyze data from existing databases to monitor health status needs trends and identify urgent needs in the county.
Gather review and analyze program-specific data to inform work plans and interventions assist with reporting and track progress over time.
Provide data visualizations and explanatory narratives for both public-facing and department-only reports. Develop monthly quarterly or annual reports as assigned.
As data allows provide data reports stratified by variables that will identify disparities and inequities.
Act as a resource for public health staff within applicable programs to ensure appropriate collection and interpretation of program data. Assist in identifying data sources to inform work plans.
Able to work as a part of a team and to respond to feedback and supervision.
Engage with local state and regional community-based organizations.
Assist with outbreak investigations or other public health emergencies should surge capacity be needed
Participate on multi-disciplinary modernization and accreditation teams to assist with performance management quality improvement emergency preparedness and response and any other data needs.
Participate in collaborative meetings particularly around communicable disease prevention and response.
Serve as an informational resource to the community and proactively provide data visualization and interpretation resources when a public health emergency is occurring to promote transparency and awareness of trends.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal direct supervision. Must be task and detail-oriented and able to accept feedback on work product.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Education Certification & Experience
Bachelors degree from four-year college or university in public health with a focus on epidemiology or closely related field; Masters degree preferred.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical biostatistical and epidemiological concepts.
Expertise with statistical and data visualization programs (such as Tableau R SAS SPSS etc)
Preferred: currently hold registration for infection control and epidemiology (CBIC) or association for professional in infection control and epidemiology (ABIC)

Salary and Benefits
This is an hourly non-exempt position with a wage range of $28.89 - $36.53 per hour. The pay range listed here reflects the FULL pay range for this position for the current fiscalyear. Salary offers are based on the candidates equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.
