Job Description

Position Summary

The Manager of Sponsored Programs plays a key role in making behavioral health more accessible by helping to secure and manage grants and philanthropy for the Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP) at the University of Denver (DU). This position supports the full lifecycle of traditional and philanthropic grants and fee-for-service contractsfrom proposal development to post-award financial managementand ensures compliance with various university and sponsor policies.

A strong candidate will have exceptional communication skills to drive collaboration with faculty and staff across campus as well as with external partners. A passion for learning and technological savviness will help the ideal candidate adopt new software and create resources to organize information for a variety of stakeholders. This position will draw on impeccable attention to detail financial acumen and confidentiality to create budgets and reconcile expenses using multiple processes for multiple funding sources. Finally excellent training skills will help this position hire and train other staff members to support specific projects.

This position is part of GSPPs Business and Operations Team and reports to the Assistant Dean of Business and Operations. Remote work is available during DUs regular business hours.

Essential Functions

  • Manage proposal development and submission processes in collaboration with faculty and staff.
  • Create and manage detailed budgets and spending plans review regularly and adjust as needed.
  • Manage financial and human resources tasks for grant-funded projects when needed.
  • Understand and apply university and sponsor policies processes and best practices including federal and state regulations.
  • Provide training and supervision to project-specific operational staff.
  • Use technology tools (e.g. Banner InfoEd Excel Outlook Teams Copilot) to streamline operations.
  • Develop training materials and documentation for operations staff and principal investigators.
  • Serve as a collaborative liaison across departments and with external partners.
  • Participate as an active member of staff teams through cross-training professional development and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to resolve routine problems using existing guidelines and processes
  • Ability to make independent decisions and or/recommendations when necessary
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to research investigate analyze reconcile and evaluate data. Ability to understand and effectively communicate complex financial reports and other information to individuals with varying levels of experience.
  • Strong MS Office skills including Excel
  • Demonstrated commitment knowledge and ability to effectively engage individuals from broadly diverse communities
  • Ability to budget and forecast to end of grant period

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or a related field or combination of experience and education.
  • 4-6 years of experience relevant to the job functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience relevant to the job functions.
  • Experience working specifically with pre- and post-award grant or sponsored project administration.
  • Knowledge and practical application of accounting principles and federal/state regulations such as State of Colorado guidelines relevant OMB Circulars and Federal Acquisition Regulations.
  • Experience working in higher education or a similarly complex field.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule

Typical schedule 8:00 a.m. 4:00 accordance with the Universitys flexible work policy this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 11.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $70000 - $74000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
