The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Human Resources Technician!In this role you will have the opportunity to apply your technical skills provide excellent customer service to internal partnersand expand your knowledge of human resources operations.
The current vacancy is on our Benefits Team where you will provide administrative support for employee benefit enrollments and changes. You will become proficient in our automated personnel and benefits systems applying your human resources knowledge and analytical skills to process benefit information according to applicable policies and agreements. Youll also provide information and support to City staff and retirees regarding their benefits. The City offers a variety of benefits including medical and dental life insurance CalPERS pension deferred compensation plans and more.
This position requires excellent attention to detail a high degree of customer service multi-tasking skills and the ability to accurately interpret policies and regulations. Familiarity with union agreements is desirable.
The eligible list resulting from this recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies for up to one year. Future vacancies may be in the areas of Personnel Transactions or Leave of Absence/Workers Compensation.
A typical way of gaining the knowledge skills and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to two (2) years of college and two (2) years of office assistant experience which included at least one (1) year working with human resources policies procedures and practices in a human resources operation. Additional human resources office assistant experience may be substituted for the college requirement on a year for year basis.
OR
Possession of a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration human resources management industrial relations or a closely related field.
Other requirements include the ability to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet program needs and fulfill job responsibilities. When driving on City business incumbent must maintain a valid California drivers license and a satisfactory driving record.

The exam process will include but may not be limited to:
Application review for minimum qualifications and required information (qualifying experience will be calculated based on the application close date)
Tests may consist of any combination of written oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include but are not necessarily limited to typing math reading writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency or any other job-related knowledge skill ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may without notice change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews tentatively scheduled for early October.
