Description

Support a competitive NCAA Division I golf program by instructing student-athletes in practice and competition assisting with the recruitment and development of qualified student-athletes and organizing practice and competition schedules and logistics.
The assistant coach must support the Director of Golf in operating the program in a manner that recognizes the primacy of academics by recruiting supporting and retaining student-athletes who will uphold Holy Cross high academic tradition.

Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Assists the Director of Golf in all aspects of student-athlete support: developing training plans that account for the specific needs of student-athletes including practice plans and simulator sessions; designing and running tryouts and qualifiers; meeting with and developing clear communication channels with student-athletes; supporting academic success; selecting and ordering team equipment and apparel; and maintaining records and statistics.
  • Assists in the scheduling of contests and practices in accordance with College policies. Available for practices and overnight travel to competitions. Helps to organize competition strategy and transportation meals and lodging for travel.
  • Participates in promotional and fundraising initiatives. Effectively engages in special events to generate interest within the College and local community including networking and playing golf with alumni and donors and exploring community service opportunities. Candidates must provide examples of their commitment to the Jesuit mission of engaging people of all cultures values systems faiths and traditions.
  • Oversees publicity and social media working with athletic communications and team members to produce photographs video and social media posts and provide information on schedules and student-athlete performances.
  • Understands emerging golf technologies including Flightscope TrackMan and similar products and shows ability to use science and data to inform decisions when appropriate.
  • Assists with overseeing operational activities of volunteer assistant coach.
  • Collaborates with Director of Golf sport supervisor and/or Director of Athletics to develop annual goals for program. Communicates program needs and concerns responsibly and in timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Golf.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Coaching experience preferred especially at the collegiate level or in a club or professional setting. PGA/LPGA certified professionals strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations preferred.
  • Experience recruiting or working with high school athletes preferred.
  • Management or team building experience preferred.
  • A network of relationships with regional golf contacts preferred.
  • Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills required. Proficient computer skills are strongly preferred.
  • A valid drivers license is required. Must be capable and comfortable with transporting student athletes to competitions and practices as needed.

Additional Information
This is a part-time exempt level position. Individuals in this role will be expected to be available for most competitions and practices. This position is an 8 month position which runs from September 1 through April 30 each academic year. Additional support of the program outside of these time periods is permitted on a voluntary basis.
