Job Description Summary
The Temianka Music Research Scholar Program is a unique academic employment opportunity for a Chapman University student to engage in focused musicological research related to the life work and legacy of violinist conductor and educator Henri Temianka. This position is generously funded by Dr. Daniel Temianka in honor of his father and it supports the development of original scholarship rooted in the study of historical documents recordings and other primary sources. The selected student will develop an independent research project centered on the musical life and legacy of Henri Temianka drawing on primary sources such as the Temianka Archives as well as secondary sources in published literature. Under the supervision of Taylor Greene Chair of Library AI Literacy and Instructional Services and Performing Arts Librarian the student will receive guidance in musicological research methods and scholarly writing. The position includes the opportunity to engage with emerging technologies including the ethical and effective use of AI tools to support the research process. The project will culminate in a substantial scholarly product with possible opportunities for presentation at a professional conference.
Responsibilities
Conduct original musicological research connected to Henri Temiankas musical career and influence Receive structured mentorship from a music scholar-librarian with expertise in performance music history and information literacy Consult and analyze primary sources including but not limited to materials from the Temianka Archives Gain experience in advanced research methodologies including responsible use of AI as a research tool Produce a culminating scholarly product such as a research paper or annotated bibliography Have the potential opportunity to co-present research findings at a professional conference
