SUMMARY
This mid-level position is responsible as an individual and in a team for the manufacturing of quality components in a timely routine manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Toolmaker 2 (TM2)
- The incumbent is responsible for manufacturing assigned job to expected quality specifications with limited supervision of a Component Machining Supervisor (CS) or peer.
- Follows procedures utilizes a listening ability gains experience and knowledge to safely manufacture dies parts and spare parts in a timely manner consistent with quality and SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) requirements.
- Studies specifications such as blueprints sketches models or descriptions and visualizes product with limited engagement of a CS or peer to determine materials required and fixturing to be used to fabricate parts.
- With limited assistance of CS or peer selects proper tooling and fixture methods to be used to manufacture various steels powdered metals and carbide.
- Computes dimensions plans layout and determines toolmaking method and sequence of operations with limited engagement of a CS or peer.
- Measures marks and scribes stock for manufacturing reference independently.
- Has adequate knowledge of setup and use of dial indicators calipers micrometers bore gages gage blocks and pertinent equipment.
- Has the ability to consistently hold tolerances of .0003.
- Maintains all acceptable surface finishes per the function of the part.
- Performs required preventive maintenance on assigned machine(s) as needed.
- Verifies dimensions stock allowance and conformity as trained.
- Investigates problems that arise while performing a job and applies problem solving techniques to attempt to resolve problems.
- Maintains focus on productivity maximizing uptime.
- Completes required paperwork accurately and efficiently to verify work.
- Properly tracks time worked using required methods and systems as trained.
- Participates in training and cross training efforts as assigned.
- Able to train TM1.
General
- Embraces and participates in JVs Safety culture always keeping Safety as the #1 priority. Conforms to and follows all safety rules production and quality directives. Maintains cleanliness of work area to meet JV standards.
- Reports any incidents that have occurred in a timely fashion and participates in investigations as required (i.e. safety spills accidents productivity/workflow).
- Makes suggestions demonstrates a questioning attitude and is supportive and open minded to new and existing ideas/initiatives.
- Maintains positive and supportive employee relations through continuous communication with all colleagues.
- Filing inventory administrative tasks security auditing housekeeping painting inspections telephone calls ordering shipping training mentoring updating safety data sheets and any other duties as assigned.
- Performs other duties and assignments as deemed necessary to support JVs dynamic business and operational needs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
Education -- High School diploma or equivalent. Journeyman Papers or equivalent experience.
Experience Worked in Tool and Die for a minimum of 7 years.
Basic computer skills including use and navigation of internet/intranet.
Ability to understand and apply appropriate usage of technology in a work environment including virus prevention.
Internal Candidates
o Minimum 3 years at Toolmaker 1.
o Meets or exceeds overall expectations in formal review for past year.
o No formal warning of quality or productivity issues for the past 1 year.
o Has 8 or less NCR occurrences for past year
o Maintains 20% or less Indirect Labor for past 1 year.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of reading a blueprint
- Strong Math Skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is generally working within a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment.
- This position is considered safety sensitive due to operating heavy machinery and equipment.
- Work week is a minimum of 40 hours. There is additional requested overtime as business and operational needs necessitate. Required work hours schedules and shifts are subject to change based upon business necessity. Required reliable transportation applies to all shifts as assigned.
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
- Noise level varies throughout the different work areas. Must wear appropriate PPE as required in work area(s).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
General Physical ability and mobility to walk stand and sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop bend kneel crouch crawl climb reach twist grasp and make repetitive hand movement; ability to climb unusual heights on ladders to lift carry push and/or pull moderate to heavy loads (up to 50 lbs.); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles.
Near Vision The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
