Multiple departments are looking for aPower Mower Operator-Grounds Keeper! This position is responsible for operating passenger-type power mowers as a primary duty while caring for maintaining and beautifying landscaped areas.

Current Vacancies:
Duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Operating passenger-type power mowers to mow park properties and other grassed areas and performing driver-required maintenance on vehicles up to ton including hauling equipment and supplies with trailers;
  • Performing groundskeeping tasks such as cleaning watering trimming weeding sweeping raking lawn areas and policing parking lots and facilities while operating and maintaining light power equipment and tools;
  • Making minor repairs including sprinkler head replacements plumbing unblocking and light bulb changes; performing building maintenance such as touch-up painting adjusting plumbing fixtures replacing paper supplies and assisting with graffiti removal;
  • Conducting daily inspections of grounds facilities and equipment for hazardous conditions vandalism graffiti break-ins and theft; correcting or barricading issues and reporting findings to the supervisor;
  • Inspecting trees and shrubbery for maintenance needs such as pruning and signs of damage or disease; informing park users of rules and regulations verifying permits reporting infractions and spraying herbicides under supervisor direction;
  • Cleaning comfort stations restrooms and recreation buildings; operating light utility vehicles such as golf carts and riding lawn mowers; performing routine maintenance on power mowers by cleaning oiling greasing and making minor repairs; assisting Building Maintenance Repairer and Trades personnel as needed; and addressing hazardous conditions during inspections; and
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Special Work Requirement:Work schedule is from 6:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. with hours and end times varying depending on the vacancy. May be required to work nights weekends and holidays based on operational needs. This position will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Some experience and/or training in the repair or operation of passenger-type power mowers or similar motorized equipment.

Key Competencies and Skills Needed:


LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
1.) Possession of a valid Hawaii State drivers license (Type 3/automobile) as required.
2.) Obtain and maintain from the Citys Health Services Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) test prior to appointment.
