Description

The Chaplain 3 provides direct spiritual care and support for patients families and staff. The Chaplain 3 functions as staff chaplain for one or more clinical units/locations and has responsibility for ensuring the spiritual and religious needs of patients/residents and family are met on the assigned units. The Chaplain 3 also serves as a subject matter expert in one or more specialty areas such as palliative care pediatrics mental and behavioral health grief/bereavement counseling residential LTC addiction recovery etc. The role will also lead projects such as chaplain documentation (EPIC) spiritual screening & assessment medical decision-making care for healthcare colleagues case study research and reporting/analytics regarding the impact of chaplain visits on patient satisfaction. Key distinctives of this role that sets it apart from Chaplain 2 are the competencies of team lead educator and researcher.



Responsibilities
  • Experience: 8 years in Pastoral Ministry in a healthcare setting and 30-45 CE focused on a healthcare clinical specialization; beyond seminary training and CPE.
  • Education: Masters Degree in Theology or related field from an accredited seminary or theological school
  • License: Board Certified with NACC APC or NAJC; appropriate ecclesial endorsement
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Completion of 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) through ACPE and Board Certification through APC NACC NAJC Completed at least one 5-year peer review from accreditation Board.


Qualifications
  • Chaplaincy Care with Patients and Families
    • Assessment: The chaplain gathers and evaluates relevant data pertinent to the patients situation and/or bio-psycho-social-spiritual/religious health.
    • Delivery of Care: The chaplain develops and implements a plan of care to promote patient well-being and continuity of care. The chaplain facilitates the expression of the patients spiritual practices.
    • Documentation of Care: The chaplain collaborates with the organizations interdisciplinary care team and the pastoral care team.
    • Ethical Practice: The chaplain adheres to the Common Code of Ethics with guides decision making and professional behavior adheres to the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
    • Confidentiality: The chaplain respects the confidentiality of information from all sources including the patient medical record other team members and family members in accordance with federal and state laws regulations and rules.
    • Respect for Diversity: The chaplain models and collaborates with the organization and its interdisciplinary team in respecting and provide culturally competent patient-centered care.
    • The chaplain ministers to all person regardless of faith race affiliation or orientation.
    • Administration: The chaplain contributes to orderly functioning of the department by attending to administrative issues and standards of behavior
  • Care for Staff and Organization
    • Care for Staff: The chaplain provides timely and sensitive pastoral care to the organizations staff via individual and group interactions. The chaplain facilities crisis debriefings provides pastoral care for unit services and special events.
    • Care for the Organization: The chaplain provides pastoral care to the organization in ways consistent with the organizations values and missions statement. The chaplain presides at memorial services and other special services.
    • Chaplain as Leader: The chaplain provides leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession. The chaplain mentors other less experienced pastoral care staff students and volunteers.
  • Maintaining Competent Chaplaincy Care
    • Continuous Quality Improvement: The chaplain seeks and creates opportunities to enhance the quality of chaplaincy care practice across the health system.
    • Research: The chaplain practices evidence-based care including ongoing evaluation of new practices. The chaplain is familiar with relevant current research and communicates this across the health system. When appropriate s/he contributes to or conducts research.
    • Knowledge and Continuing Education: The chaplain assumes responsibility for his/her own and others continued professional development; brings knowledge of current theory and practice and integrates such information into practice across the health system.
  • Other Duties As Assigned
    • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
