Description of Work



We are looking for candidates who have a passion for helping at-risk youth.
We areWorking Together to Strengthen North Carolinas Youth and Families!

This position is located at Lenoir Youth Development Center in Kinston NC.

This position is responsible for providing developing coordinating and monitoring religious/spiritual activities and meeting the spiritual emotional clinical and social needs of the staff youth and families served by Lenoir Youth Development Center. This position will also be responsible for developing a wide array of community resources including recruiting orienting coordinating and supervising the various volunteers and religious organizations that provide their services to the youth and families served by the Department. Also responsible for collecting Juvenile Letters from the Housing Unit Black Box.

This position requires the ability to:
  • Listen understand and minister to the specific spiritual needs of persons in crisis.
  • Work effectively with persons of diverse religious cultural racial backgrounds and structures.
  • Establish intra-staff relationships and function in a multidisciplinary setting as a member of management treatment and childcare teams and to interpret to the staff the role of spirituality in delinquency and the religious resources and concerns of students.
  • Relate effectively with all levels of staff youth families and communities.
  • Develop education programs for clergy and laymen in the area of crisis ministry.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements


Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. If that language appears below then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience OR a combination of both. See details.


Master of Divinity degree from a school of theology or seminary accredited by The Association of Theological Schools (ATS) and one year of residency in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent professional chaplaincy experience and Ordination or membership in a recognized religious governed body;

OR

Masters degree in related field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of residency in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent professional chaplaincy/clergy experience and Ordination or membership in a recognized religious governed body;

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.



Necessary Special Qualification:
Applicants for positions designated as Juvenile Justice Officers are subject to and must meet the hiring and training standards established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission as defined in Title 12 Chapter 9 of the NC Administrative Code by the statutory authority of GS 17C.
Selected applicant must attend and successfully complete and pass the Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training certification program. The certification requires four weeks to complete and is comprised of classroom and physically demanding training. This training is carried out at regional training centers and requires consecutive overnight addition the selected candidate must:
Have or be able to obtain required documentation for certification as a Juvenile Justice Officer (i.e. a diploma).
Pass a Criminal Background check
Pass a Drug Screening test
Pass a Psychological test
Pass a Sexual Risk Screening test
Pass a Physical (to include Vision and Hearing)
Be a US citizen
Be at least 20 years of age
Have a valid drivers license
