Job Description

Position Summary
The PAUT Shearwave Technician is responsible for performing Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) shearwave examinations to detect evaluate and document discontinuities in welds base materials and structural components. This role ensures compliance with applicable codes client specifications and industry standards while maintaining the highest levels of safety and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform PAUT shearwave examinations on welds piping pressure vessels structural steel and other components in accordance with project specifications and applicable codes (e.g. ASME API AWS).
  • Set up calibrate and operate PAUT equipment and associated software for accurate data acquisition and analysis.
  • Interpret evaluate and document indications to determine compliance with acceptance criteria.
  • Prepare inspection reports digital data files and client deliverables in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Work closely with project managers engineers and client representatives to clarify requirements and inspection scopes.
  • Maintain compliance with company quality management system (QMS) procedures and applicable safety requirements.
  • Assist in procedure development and validation including technique sheets equipment verification and scan plans.
  • Provide guidance or mentorship to NDT Level I and Level II technicians as required.
  • Maintain PAUT equipment ensuring readiness and proper functionality.


Qualifications

  • Certification: Minimum ASNT/CGSB/PCN Level II in UT and PAUT with demonstrated proficiency in shearwave techniques.
  • Additional certifications (MT PT RT VT TOFD API) are considered an asset.
  • Minimum 25 years of NDT experience with direct hands-on PAUT shearwave inspection experience in oil & gas petrochemical or power generation industries.
  • Strong knowledge of NDT codes and standards (ASME Section V VIII IX; API 1104; AWS D1.1; etc.).
  • Proficient in the use of PAUT instrumentation and software platforms (e.g. Olympus OmniScan Zetec Sonatest).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings isometric drawings and weld maps.
  • Excellent attention to detail analytical skills and technical report writing.
  • Strong commitment to safety integrity and quality.


Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work at elevations confined spaces and industrial sites.
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours or shifts as project needs require.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform inspections in physically demanding environments.


Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in advanced UT techniques such as TOFD or Full Matrix Capture (FMC/TFM).
  • Previous field inspection work on pipelines pressure vessels or offshore platforms.
  • Familiarity with digital reporting systems and data management tools.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
