Maintenance Painters
Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) operatesand maintains the Angus L. Macdonald and A. Murray MacKay Bridges facilitatingover 34 million crossings annually. HHB is committed to providing safeefficient and cost-effective cross-harbour transportation. Safety is the toppriorityfor employees bridges and the publicmaking it a sharedresponsibility for all staff.
Reportingto the Maintenance Supervisor the Painter cleans removes failed coatingsprepares steel surfaces and applies paint to bridge structures.
ThisSafety Sensitive Positioninvolves working in extreme heights (170320 feet) confined spaces andadverse weather. Key responsibilities include adhering to HHB safety standardsensuring confined space access reporting safety concerns and performingrescues if needed while wearing HHB-supplied protective equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to HHB safety policies procedures andreporting standards.
Perform painting of the bridges whilemaintaining quality control and productivity in the Maintenance PaintingProgram.
Set up/tear down workstations inspect/clean toolsand store equipment.
Complete required safety training and skillsdevelopment (training provided or paid for by HHB).
Perform other duties asassigned.
Qualifications
Ability to work at extreme heights (170320 feet) in adverse weather inconfined spaces in direct traffic and participate in high-angle rescue.
Must pass physical demands and lead-level tests as well as employmentand criminal background checks.
Punctual dependable and safety-focused with a can-do attitude.
Experience with power hand tools and working in a team environment. (AnAsset).
Clean driving record and valid Class 5 Nova Scotias Drivers License (AnAsset).
Experience with heights. (An Asset).
Vacancy: Hiring 2 positions
Position: This full-time Permanent seasonal position runsMondayFriday 8:00 AM4:30 PM (40 hours/week) during HHBs summer season; mid-Aprilto the end of October (subject to change based on operational needs) withrequired overtime including weekends.
Wage rate: The hourly wage is $22.85 during probation per theCollective Agreement.
ASafetySensitive Position is one where impaired performance due to drug oralcohol use could lead to incidents affecting safety security property orthe environment. These roles involve key operational responsibilities withlittle to no direct supervision.
