Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain emergency sub certificate
  • Previous successful experience in a similar setting desirable
  • One or more years of experience implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports school-wide preferred
  • Fingerprinting (cost paid by employee)
  • Preference given to speech therapy/speech tech experience

Description of Position:The job of an elementary school interventionist is to help to identify and prioritize a range of issues concerning students families and teachers. Emphasis is on creating and maintaining an environment that promotes the health of its individual members. The interventionist is a member of a collaborative team of support personnel that provide social emotional and educational opportunities in both classrooms and small group setting. Emphasis is on identifying the needs of individual students and placing a focus on including families in meeting those needs.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Extensive communication and data analysis skills especially as related to student behavior and discipline
  2. Considerable knowledge in strategies to implement evidence-based behavioral and disciplinary practices with fidelity and accountability
  3. Strong communication and organizational skills
  4. Ability to work cooperatively with school administrators parents students school staff and community agency representatives
  5. Ability to work with people from a wide range of cultural ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds
  6. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  7. Assist completion of baseline academic assessments
  8. Set up a targeted intense self-monitoring and recognition system for students who are not responding to core interventions of individual goal-setting and planning as well as targeted social skills and problem-solving skills instruction
  9. Meet with students and perform crisis de-escalation (if necessary) and problem solving when the participant is in behavioral crisis referred to the office from problem behavior or returning to the school subsequent to suspension dismissal or other forced absence from school (e.g. police arrest or child protection placement)
  10. Contact students when they are absent from school without parental excuse and develop an attendance or truancy problem-solving plan with the student
  11. Meet individually with a minimum of ten (10) targeted students per week to ensure academic and social needs are being addressed
  12. Design programs that are consistent with the total educational philosophy and goals of the school

Intervention/Supervising Students

  • Assist the student in understanding and accepting himself/herself as an individual and enabling the student to express an awareness of his/her feelings values and needs
  • Assist the pupil in the development of the ability to cope with and solve problems competently
  • Supervise students

Consultation

  • Clarify guidance and counseling services available through the school
  • Resource person on the growth and development of students
  • Assist parents in developing realistic perceptions of their childrens aptitudes abilities interests attitudes and development in terms of educational and occupational planning school progress and social progress
  • Share appropriate information with staff members noting the need for confidentially
  • Identify pupils with special needs and make appropriate referrals
  • Participate in staff meetings and case conferences
  • Assist teachers in gathering materials and planning activities for classroom guidance
  • Disseminate materials and information concerning college requirements college entrance examinations financial aid and career trends

Special Requirements:

  • HIV/AIDS Training preferred
  • Sexual Harassment Training preferred
  • Criminal history clearance (waived if currently in the OSPI data base showing clearance within the last two year)

Allowable Substitutions:

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find acceptable and appropriate.

Terms ofContractor Agreement:

  • Work year shall be concurrent with the school calendar
  • 6.5 hours per day
  • Salary- DOE

3 hours Para I - $20.92-$23.98
3.5 hours Social Int. - $28.68-$32.72
