Chief - General Engineering

In this key leadership position the GE Chief Engineer will play a crucial role providing regulatory direction and oversight for development permitting and inspection needs associated with public and private construction and improvements within CBJs jurisdiction while fostering collaboration across internal departments and ensuring the delivery of high-quality public infrastructure.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking a Chief GE Engineer with an understanding of and ability to apply the principles of civil engineering to residential commercial and industrial development activities including grading ditching drainage and site preparation. Additionally you will interpret and review plats for accuracy and compliance and have the attention to detail to catch errors and inconsistencies. The position requires interpretation of and enforcement of CBJ Municipal code as it applies to private development. Excellent problem solving and customer service skills will allow you to excel at helping the public navigate these code requirements.

The position manages the General Engineering Division which consists of two Engineering Associates who inspect and approve building permits and plans for private development. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to manage consultant and construction contracts work successfully with private developers and effectively promote a safe work environment.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position works Monday through Friday 8:00am 4:30pm with a one-hour lunch. The office is located in downtown Juneau on fourth floor of the Marine View Building 230 S. Franklin Street.

The Engineer / Architect III (Chief GE Engineer) will be under the general direction of the Engineering & Public Works Deputy Director. The position is a regulatory position and is responsible for the monitoring of the General Engineering Division. The incumbent will also exercise considerable initiative and sound judgement in decisions of solving and devising methods to solve problems planning scheduling and carrying out assignments.

Desirable Experience:

Three (3) years professional experience as a registered Engineer Architect or Land Surveyor that includes managing projects in a designated field of practice or specialty as defined by the position description.

Hiring departments will specify type of experience and additional requirements at time of recruitment.

Licensure (required): Alaska state law requires incumbents to be licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) Architect or Professional Land Surveyor (PS) as defined by the position description.

A valid Drivers License is required at time of appointment and continued employment.
