Position Title: Green AcresEarly Childhood Preschool Special Education Teacher

School/Department: Green Acres Elementary School North Haven CT 06473

Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Student Services

Union Affiliation: Teacher Contract

Work Year: School Year

Summary

Will provide specialized instruction to preschool studentswho are identified with a disability of Autism and

multiple disabilities in the preschool classroom.

Education/Qualifications

Valid 112 or 113 Connecticut Certification

A minimum of field work experience at the college level

Responsibilities/Expectations

  • Autism Certification degree or extensive formal coursework in autism and/or students with significant cognitive and/or behavioral challenges
  • Implement model monitor and adjust a variety of instructional and social/emotional strategies
  • across all settings restrictive settings regular classroom settings and non-instructional settings in cooperation with general education classroom staff
  • Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Analysis and writing behavioral support plans analyzing behavioral data
  • Ability to initiate productive communication to address student concerns with administration team members and parents.
  • Develop a daily/weekly schedule of instructional and non-instructional activities for each paraeducator that supports students on your caseload always with the intent to build students independence.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Planning and Placement Team process and legal and related compliance
  • Conduct appropriate evaluations and assist other teams in understanding the special education eligibility process for students with or suspected of having a disability including the use of state guidelines.
  • Demonstrate teacher-leadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the special education department in the above areas.
