SUMMARY:
The primary function of an English Language Arts instructor is to teach the English language through reading speaking and writing to English-speaking students. The English language teacher uses a variety of media to help students appreciate the English language and acquire basic language arts skills.
To be successful as an English teacher you should be resilient hardworking and able to work under pressure. Outstanding candidates are constantly searching for ways to improve reading culture and student engagement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSILBILITES:
- Must follow the states educational standards for language or communication arts when designing the curriculum.
- Teachers may plan courses that involve lectures about grammar group discussions of books or proofreading exercises. They may monitor student progress through assignments and tests.
- Your goal is to help students develop their writing reading comprehension and listening and speaking skills with the aim of expanding their capacity to use the English language both for communication and personal enrichment.
- Implementing and delivering quality instruction to students and executing the instructional program by demanding higher order thinking activities from students in a progressive manner
- Collaborate with teaching staff and administrators to foster a good student experience
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree Required; Masters Degree preferred
- Must hold appropriate DESE issued subject matter certification.
- SEI Endorsement required
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI) and fingerprints
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Hudson School Committees policy on evaluation or in accordance with union contract.
WORK YEAR:
- 10 months 183 days
- 3 personal days 13 sick days prorated pursuant to date of hire

While performing duties of this job the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e. calculator copy machine and computer printer).Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling stooping/crouching reaching/handling talking/hearing conversations and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students staff members and the public in person and on the telephone.
