The Opportunity
Halifax Water is Atlantic Canadas largest water utility providing integrated water wastewater and stormwater utility for more than 106000 customers daily. For more than 70 years we have been proud stewards of the water cycle providing clean water to customers and safely conveying it back to the source. Through our One Team - One Water approach our more than 550 dedicated employees provide essential water services to an estimated 383000 people in HALIFAX.
We are currently hiring for one (1) Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP). This is a regular opportunity in the People & Culture department.
As a HRBP you will:
- Act as a trusted strategic partner to all business leaders and provide expertise
- Support in a broad range of human resources functions including employee relations labour relations talent management coaching performance management corporate policy development and workforce planning to ensure consistency in application.
- Be responsible for providing advice and coaching to leadership supervisory and management levels building and maintaining strong relationships with all employees and communicating and delivering various people focused programs and initiatives to the business.
- Play a significant role in the development and implementation of strategic People & Culture plans and the provision of HR support to meet organizational goals.
To do this job you need to have:
- a university degree in a related field
- ideally hold a CPHR (Chartered Professional in Human Resources) designation or be willing to obtain.
- over 3-5 years of broad related HR generalist experience with previous experience in a unionized environment considered an asset

Responsibilities
Collaborate in the implementation of People & Culture initiatives aligned to our annual business plan and strategic plan objectives and ensure consistency in application.
Responsible for leading all talent management strategies including workforce planning succession planning and developing talent pathways for employees.
Provide employee relations by providing guidance fostering an engaged workforce positive working environments and inspiring individuals to be part of an impactful team.
Provide effective compliant and reliable internal client service labour relations and resource management performance impact or progressive discipline.
Provide leadership supports and development to empower inspire and develop talent as well as grow their coaching and management skills.

As a public service utility operating critical infrastructure on behalf of our customers our employees are trained in Emergency Measures Operations (EMO) and Incident Command System (ICS). This type of training allows Halifax Water to respond to all emergencies from simple water main breaks to keeping customer water flowing (water wastewater and stormwater) through Hurricanes and other major natural events.
