Position: National Lead - Defence & Security Ecosystem

Compensation Details:

  • Business Development 19: Salaries typically range from $109810 - $146413 based on qualifications and experiences plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:

  • This role will be performed from one of EDCs community hubs in Toronto or Montreal or at our Headquarters in Ottawa.
  • Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week.

Team & Job Overview

EDC is undertaking a new approach to the Defence & Security (D&S) sector and as such requires a dedicated individual to drive the strategy and understanding of the ecosystem. As part of the larger Sectors and International Advisory team (SIA) theD&S Lead is accountable fora diverse portfolio of partner and ecosystem relationships as well as developing the strategy and tactics to achieve EDCs targets.

We are looking foranexperienced candidate to join ourteam to deliver on our mandate ofsupporting the growth of Canadian companies in the sector.The successful candidatewillleveragetheirextensive professional network business development skillsandindustryexpertiseto bridge the gap between industry government and the financial sector.

The D&S Lead will focus on managing key external relationships and providingmarket intelligence and expert insight to groups internally while representingEDC at various events andprovidingoversight to specific internal team functions. The successful candidate will haveexperience with procurement practices and an acumen to represent EDCs solutions and operations to an existing network of export and defence related players domestically and internationally.

Leveraging this experience the candidate will be a go-to resource to raise EDCs internal awareness of the sector and provide insights and analysis to feed into EDCs strategic planning efforts.

Targeted sector:

D&S Sector:The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the various defence sub-sectors and dual-use technologies demonstrate judgment to navigate policy public perception and responsible business conduct regrading relevant ESG issues and identify international procurement trends that Canadian companies must navigate in this space.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop a network within the Canadiandefence ecosystemand represent the organization atsector events professional forums and committees.
  • Obtain market intelligence and enhance the visibility and reputation of the organization its products and its services.
  • Identifyand manage external stakeholders up toexecutivelevel uncovering their needs/issues/concerns and then lead and coordinate stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.
  • As a self-starter organize & lead EDCs internal stakeholders to increase the level of market knowledge and awareness of D&S across teams.
  • Map and maintain a comprehensive view of the D&S ecosystem in Canada including subsectors of growth in dual-use technologies and international ecosystems that represent opportunities for Canadian companies.
  • Research and develop strategies for executive consumption to build consensus and ensure that all levels of the organization are well-briefed on trends and challenges facing the sector.
  • Leveraging experience with defence procurement innovation or industrial policy demonstrate an understanding of export finance tools and capital structuring typical in the sector.
  • Participate intheinitialtriaging of opportunities tomatch customer/partner needs with EDC productsandidentifythe resources who willprovideon-going customer managementto ensure needs are met for maximum value creation through the client growth cycle.
  • Support the work done byRelationshipManagers and Underwriters across EDC by offering insight into external programs from the ecosystem andprovidestrategic insight to support their customer engagements.
  • Develop and implement a relationship management planand partner orientationfor strategic complex existingpartnershipsto build key relationshipsata national levelwithin the ecosystem partners with a focus on industrybanksand government.
  • Work with the Government Relations team to provide sector insights on all matters related to our relationship engaging be a champion for EDC but also a leader inecosystemissues related to data and program designand deliveryto achieveCanadas goals.
  • Act as a player-coach for Associate level positionsin the team which include participation in staffing onboardingtrainingand on defence sector issues to groups across EDC.
  • Lead andfacilitatethe exchange of ideas and task collaboration in fluidmid-sizedprojectteamswhich can becomprisedof internal and external players.
  • Ensure that thecustomer relationship management systemis being usedto maximize customer engagement and documentation of key customer activities.

What we are looking for:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration Engineering Public Administration Law orInternational Relations (or equivalent professional designation) in relevantdiscipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of partner/industry/government relationship management.
  • Well-developedprofessional network in exportand/or defence related themes.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and lead virtual teams.
  • Experience that demonstrates the ability to translate between sectoral and financial perspectives such as through work with industry banks government programs or sovereign clients.
  • Knowledge of other ECAs along with NATO EU US and international partner defence investment organizations and sovereign programs (e.g. US FMS).
  • Active Secret Security clearance (or ability to obtain clearance)

What will make you stand out:

  • Bilingualism (English and French).
  • Previous experience serving in the Canadian Armed Forces and/or the Department of National Defence.
  • Experience with offsets (ITB) consortia-building or public-private innovation partnerships.
  • Knowledgeand proven ability to usesocialmedia.
