Jenks Public Schools Job Description

Position: English Language Development (ELD) Program Liaison - Zomi/Burmese

Reports to: District ELD Coordinator & Director of Student Support & Accountability

Supervises: None

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED required; College degree preferred.
  2. Satisfy Oklahoma paraprofessionalrequirements by:
    • Completed at least 2 years of study (48 hrs.) at an institution of higher ed OR
    • Hold an associate degree or higher OR
    • Obtained a National Career Readiness Certificate through successful completion of the ACT Workkeys Assessment or passed the Paraprofessional Assessment Test with a passing score of 455 or greater.
  3. Competent in speaking reading and writing in English and Zomi/Burmese languages.
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  5. Previous experience working with an ELD program.
  6. Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Position Goal: Increase Zomi/Burmese families district communication and engagement and assist the district with interpretations and translations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate communication with Zomi/Burmese families and staff.
  2. Collaborate with the District ELD Coordinator and sites to schedule and facilitate interpreters.
  3. Serve as an interpreter for Parent Engagement Events Site Parent meetings enrollment events Special Education Parent Meetings and Parent/Teacher conferences.
  4. Translate district materials for parents and students.
  5. Assist the District ELD Coordinator with compiling and maintaining translated school forms/documents.
  6. Maintain district social media platforms in Zomi and Burmese.
  7. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Employment Terms: Ten (10) month classified hourly contract

FLSA Qualification: Non-Exempt

Evaluation: Jenks Public Schools Classified Evaluation

Physical Demands:

Occasional Requirements: Reach with hands and arms overhead above the shoulders and horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds.

Visual Requirements: Close color peripheral depth perception ability to adjust focus.

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information.
