Internal Medicine Genetic Environmental and Inhalational DiseaseJob Duties
Research Overview: Design and conduct experiments and interpret data under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator (PI).
Design and carry out cell culture and rodent-based research projects.
Develop and troubleshoot research protocols.
Analyze experimental data and interpret results for use in publications grant applications and determining the next steps in the research.
Perform cellular and molecular biology experiments pertaining to define the molecular mechanisms of mucin trafficking in the airway epithelium.
Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.
Collaborate with the PI to design and execute independent experiments.
Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook documenting all calculations procedures results and other relevant research information
Expectations: The Postdoc will be expected to complete research projects under the guidance of the faculty mentor record and interpret the results of their experiments in an (electronic) laboratory notebook prepare publication-quality manuscripts (including figures and tables) and publish in peer-reviewed literature.
Read literature articles develop new ideas and assimilate the information into his/her project design/interpretation.
Dissemination of studies: Interact on a regular basis with their PI faculty mentor and members of the laboratory to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.
Present research aims and findings at department seminars and at local and national scientific meetings. Write and publish their results as first author in abstracts manuscripts and posters.
Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Department understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings.

Required Qualifications
Education:
Doctoral degree or foreign equivalent in Molecular/Cellular Biology Biochemistry or a related field.
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements institutional standards of academic and professional excellence alignment with peer institution benchmarks and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
Work Experience:
Less than 2 years of post-doctoral experience.
Cell culture animal handling microscopy and standard wet lab experience needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience:
Experience with microscopy and immunohistochemistry.
Experience working with human bronchial epithelial cells.
Experience in Molecular/Cellular Biology Biochemistry Anatomy & Physiology Immunology or related discipline.
Established publication record.

At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
