Role overview
Are you passionate about clinical quality and patient safety Were looking for a Head of Clinical Quality & Patient Safety (Operational) to join our team at Newmedica.
In this role youll provide strategic input to our leadership team ensuring that clinical quality considerations are embedded into our overarching strategy and objectives.
Youllbe responsible for providing strong and visible leadership to your team and by extension to the wider organisation enabling the delivery of safe high-quality and patient-focused care in line with all regulatory standards.
What will I be doing
Reporting into the Clinical Quality & Governance Director youll take the lead on specific work programmes including supporting the development of ophthalmology clinical pathways developing Newmedicas Patient Safety Strategy safeguarding adults and children infection prevention and control (IPC) consent mental capacity and Professional Practice for nurses pharmacists and ODPs. Youll develop and implement these programmes to enhance quality improvement and patient safety across Newmedica.
You will act as the organisations Patient Safety Specialist working closely with service directors and the Head of Clinical Quality & Patient Safety (Governance) youll develop and implement processes that meet current NHS requirements for investigating and reporting patient safety events.
Youll lead on key regulatory reporting and quality assurance including producing safeguarding and IPC reports and ensuring timely submissions to bodies such as the CQC and Commissioners. Youll also support the development and delivery of nurse and ODP training that promotes a strong culture of patient safety and continuous improvement across the organisation.
Youll also lead a team that provides direct support and expertise to our Ophthalmology Joint Venture (OJV) Partnerships advising on and coordinating activities to cultivate a system-wide approach to patient safety and continuous learning.
Additionally you will deputise for the Clinical Quality & Governance Director at key committees and meetings both internally and externally.
This is a remote role with the successful candidate ideally based in the Nottingham or London area. There will be regular national travel requiring flexibility around travel with an expectation of weekly site visits.
What skills and experience do I need
You will be a registered professional with a current NMC registration and a Masters qualification or equivalent experience in Ophthalmology. You should have extensive experience in senior leadership roles within healthcare patient safety and clinical quality with a proven track record of operating at a senior level and reporting to the Board/Executive Committee.
Youll bring deep knowledge of ophthalmology patient safety healthcare regulation quality improvement and clinical effectiveness along with experience of leading clinical teams and supporting service delivery.
You should have experience working across organisational boundaries developing productive partnerships and transforming healthcare services to improve patient experience. Strong leadership qualities the ability to inspire and motivate others and excellent project management skills are essential.
You will possess excellent communication skills with the ability to lead operational strategy and support frontline teams. A good understanding of healthcare regulations especially related to safeguarding consent and CQC is essential.
Youll be able to confidently make and implement complex decisions while navigating competing priorities and organisational challenges.
The role has a team of about 7 people and the ideal candidate will be able to inspire and motivate their team making complex decisions in times of competing priorities.
